Hey, I'm glad you guys are liking our stuff. I think it is true that the heart of the system is good, we just need to tweek some things, and perhaps work on some of the designs a bit, but that is all happening as we speak. I still want to hear a battle report from someone who has fought a battle. Nik and I are going to be fighting a small battle today. I will write up a battle report and post it maybe later on today. I will be fielding a 1000 point Orc army and Nik is going to be commanding a 1000 point Faerie army. We chose these armies so we could do some playtesting with the Giants of the Faerie army and the Ancient Ones from the orc army. We are going to see if giants and other large creatures should be harder to kill than they currently are. Sometimes they get killed before you get a chance to do much with them, which is not cool when you are expecting your giant to wreak havoc and be a bugger to bring down. We are also going to playtest some new psychology rules we've been working on. As it is now, battles can get quite chaotic with units running and rallying all over the board and it becomes cumbersome to keep track of. We have some good ideas to greatly simplify the rules and speed up the game significantly. The giant definately has a longevity issue.... any concerted attack will take him down pretty swiftly.

The giant definately has a longevity issue.... any concerted attack will take him down pretty swiftly. Well your in luck (or I guess the giant is in luck), we are going to make all large creatures much tougher. There is nothing really wrong with the units themselves but the expectations that are associated with those models are not always realized (a.k.a. people think they should be tougher). I will be going over the stats and making fairly big changes to them (mostly just increases in DR and Life) and also making the points reflect the change (most, if not all, will be well over 100 pts). I am just realizing that also goes for the monsters as well. I'll post the changes in an addendum when I have them complete. We also discussed quite a few new rules that should make the games much more tactical and fun. Also, we got the Foot Soldiers done. I just have to base them and take pictures. We have already scheduled that for tomorrow so I hope to have them released by the end of this weekend. It's good news all around! P.S. I think I will start a new thread since our discussion is changing from 'an introduction' to more of a 'play test' theme.

Battle Report:
"What scabby luck!" snarled Ibbleskik the goblin commander. Who would have thought that the blasted Fearies of the forest would have made their assault on the human village on the same day as his band of marauders. He could hear the trees rustling and cracking in the distance. The unmistakable clumsy travel of a giant. Faeries had a strange way of compelling these formidable creatures to do battle for them.
"Round up the skum! We'ze got company." he bellowed.
"But boss, we aint finished burnin' an plunderin' yet."
"We don't got da time! Make ready for battle!"
The goblin wolf riders had fully assembled by the time the first giant made it's way out of the woods. A second giant was right behind him, but Ibbleskik was not worried; he had a giant of his own. The orc warlord who had ordered the raid viewed it as important enough that he sent along an ancient one to add some punch to the attack. These large overgrown orcs were as brainless as they were powerful and a match for any giant. Not only that, but his orc war ram was perfectly positioned to skewer one with a heavy charge.
Ibbleskik's confidence took a punch in the gut when he saw the bird swarm make it's way over the trees. Those birds could tie up his ancient one before it gets a chance to stop the giants, then his wolf riders might be smashed.
'Where's that blasted Tree of Fae!?' he thought. 'And those roots are sure to pop up where we don' want em'. They always do.'
Just then the tree slid out of the forest as if it had been sitting there the entire time watching the whole thing unfold. And with this the battle was under way.
Before the roots or birds could make life sour, Ibbleskik ordered the war ram to charge directly into one of the giants. The bird swarm responded just as he thought they would by flying in to pester the ancient one. Now he had his dillemma. His troops weren't fast enough to smack that tree before the roots could catch him, so he did what he had to, knowing the roots would come in any case, and charged the other giant in hopes he could bring it down before the roots chewed up his ranks. Just has his goblins had engaged the giant, the stabber roots emerged from the ground behind his unit. A bad spot, but he'd give them a fight nonetheless.
So here's how the battle went: In the first round the war ram brought down the giant. The bird swarm proved ineffectual at damaging the ancient one, but the ancient one swatted and missed the birds. The goblins did some damage to the giant, but they were being chewed up from behind by the stabber roots.
In round two the war ram redirected and slammed into the tree of fae. The ancient one managed to finally kill the pesky birds. The goblins continued to battle the giant and roots, but they were taking heavy casualties, which caused many to chicken out and run.
By round three the goblins were about done for, but the tree was taking damage. The ancient one was eager to lay a thump or two on the tree himself so he moved toward it.
In round 4 the orcs and ancient one finished off the tree, which eliminates the roots.
Conclusion: It was a good fight, but in the end the orcs and goblins came out on top.
