Hello Again, Yes Paladin, I liked the cthuloid version better because it was surprising. Booty girls are ubiquitous in pop culture and so I didn't find the idea original. In addition, when revgun drew the nipply gunfighter, it implied she had skills with the gun, probably nerves of steel and and a cool head to boot. Holodancer just sells images of her booty. Some pole dancers are crazy talented, they should be doing Cirque de Soleil, but the pose wasn't about that. I think that is why I found it distasteful. And I know that it is just a matter of taste.
As for style: manga, chibi, comic book, painterly, I think there is room for all of it here. Jim certainly said as much and I don't think Nik is looking to change that. Truth be told, I'm not likely to use any of Patrick's figures, I find them too cartoony, but I learned a lot working on the backs and I did use Drew's figs for a kids game a few weeks back, so you never know.

Okay, since for all intents and purposes, I am not a contributor ( I cannot GIMP/Photoshop to save my life) but am addicted to paper/metal/plastic 25mm miniatures, I buy what I like.
I'll most likely never use them, but enjoy making paper minis, and paper toys. I am a DINK -- Dual Income, No Kids.
I can now agree that while the Imperfects would just seem 'wrong' showing reproductive parts, I would also object to Song of Fur and Buttons showing gore/bewbs. It's perfectly acceptable for Jabbro's style, Darkmook's style, Revgunn's, but something struck me about Jim's monsters. Call me a purist, but devils/demons/female monsters aiming to entice foolish mortal men (sirens, gorgons) ought to have no modesty issues.
That said, one should also look at one's audience. Would most parents of the 'under ten' set let them get any of Darkmook's stuff? Think about it really...there are literally millions of 'real' pron sites out there. Parents ought to be able to police their own kids. If a kid is old enough to successfully get the cardstock, load the printer, check the settings, and use an Xacto, then I think they're mature enough for bewbs...but it ain't my call.
Someone mentioned a Cthuloid rework of Holodancer...and I WAS NOT TOLD? This must be remedied immediately!!

cowboyleland, my "lifeform" was actually a cynical joke and no more original than a booty girl, though much easier to draw. The main actor of the whole concept is the holovisual unit itself, not its display of data. Only verminking got it, thinking of it as a decoration set for starbase tiles. That's what it was designed for ... . Remove the dancer and the lifeform, put another mini on top - and you have a whole different story. You wrote: "In addition, when revgun drew the nipply gunfighter, it implied she had skills with the gun, probably nerves of steel and and a cool head to boot. Holodancer just sells images of her booty." That says it all. The whole dilemma of violence-versus-sex in two sentences. That's all the problem. You value gun skills and nerves to kill higher than a well-shaped booty. And you could actually talk to her, cause the unit has audio-feedback. My dancer has a mind and brain too. Don't look down on her. She is an unarmed civilian (hoard topic), and she is earning good money. Her customers, mostly military personnel, pay. It's a different story, you know. What would you say about an archetypal Saloon Girl !? Or a Tavern Prostitute ... . About the "style"-question: censorship to form a streamlined "look & feel"

MemeLordJerry, well, "cthuloid" is a bit exaggerated. It's too nice for that. Look at the Monthly Hoard of Feb. You will get the message. So, what you and others, like hackbarth and maybe okumarts, are suggesting, is a place for "adult" stuff on a fantasy art forum, right ? The whole discussion is a bit weird for me, because modern fantasy and scifi in its mature, popular form has never been for kids.

paladin-- I'm working toward creating a forum for just that. I think there is a need, and it should exist. Opinions?

I also lauded real dance skill, and a cool head and nerves of steel are useful in non-violent situations as well as violent ones. I've already admitted it is a matter of taste, and that people who want access to it should have it, so enough said.

MemeLordJerry, yeah something like that. Robot Chicken ? (the internet is full of wisdom) revgunn, I think we need some sandbox for our own, yes. At least more tolerance towards mature things. I am not experienced with forum tec, though. Could be very time-consuming and costly. @cowboy , be glad, she's not moving her booty in the holo still shot. It would crack your screen. And let me tell you, that a well-shaped booty is "useful in non-violent situations as well as violent ones". And THAT is really a matter of taste ;D.

I am not experienced with forum tec, though. Could be very time-consuming and costly. I think that each of us must have a place to display his own stuff independently of the existence of the forum. Eggs in more than one basket. A Flickr account or a google sites page is enough. I don't think that there is sufficient interest in "mature" minis to feed a forum of their own. (yet, one day... maybe. When paper minis are so popular that each sub-set of them has interest in them to make a forum, I will be truly happy indeed.) Mine (scarce) stuff is in tiagohackbarth.com/papercraft (a google site for which I bought a personalized domain to redirect)

Yip, right hackbarth. I prepare a simple webpage for my paper mini stuff on my own. I only wanted to hint at the "hidden" costs of forum tec: time to CONTROL ;D user content and bandwidth cost, when successful. I am not the guy, who would showcase everything on his own forum (no torture, no porn e.g.), so I had to control content too. This could be enervating. Also, content rating and legal responsibilities of forum owners are very diffuse and complex in Germany. You risk legal punishment for not protecting underaged persons against your "adult" stuff. Maybe this is the case for "proboards" too !? Very fine mods, hackbarth, by the way ...

Password Protected Sub-Forums are permitted.
In the past, to access the protected forums, members would have to scan in an id showing birthdate and email to an admin to get the password.
You can't keep someone from grabbing Dad's id and getting access that way, but that would be a fraudulent act on their part.

If someone goes to all of that trouble to look at some drawings then they have to walk past an awful lot of free porn to get there
