Hey, I have started a project a couple of months ago, and I am going to start it back up. Since this was my FIRST project I have attempted, I know it is rough, but it is ever-evolving. My thought was this, I am a player that likes to see a figure show what it is carrying, WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get). If you are playing a game, and your character is carrying a pistol, then I feel the figure should have a pistol. If they find a flame-thrower, then they should have that instead of the pistol. The ONLY way to do this was to have a figure with a pistol, one with a flame-thrower, and so forth. I asked myself, what it would take to change out weapons on the figure, and since the 28mm scale is so small, it wasn't logical. The alternative is to have the figure have removable arms. The premise is simple... slip off an arm with a pistol on it, and replace it with the "new" weapon. Ever play "DOOM?" Same concept. You have crates all over the game map (think PMI's Space Base), and as you crawl through the map, and discover new weapons and equipment, you can convert your figures to have them. I have a quick sample of the figures I started, and these are VERY rough... I hope you like it. As this project continues, I will post more here. Hmmm... Ok. I can't seem to post my pictures... I will have to see what I am doing wrong...

Great idea. You could split the shoulder tab and fold one forward and the other back. The arms would be more secure and the tabs wouldn't stick out so much. Since you've gone 2.5d anyway you might consider a round head. Check out my board in the "members projects" section for one method of doing this.
With a stack of shuffled floor tiles, A fig like this would let you play a table top "Castle Wolfenstein" ;D

NICE! I am more for just getting something out there that isn't completely LOUSY! I have a few sketches that I am trying to work into something that I can submit. If all goes as well as planned, I am planning on submitting my "PSI-BORG." I can't seem to post pictures yet, so I am assuming I am doing something wrong... but I DO have a link that seems to work... Nice design. Has an Iron Man meets Space Marine Mk III armor feel.

I have been trying to work on this as time allows (which there is SO much going on, I BARELY have time to do ANYTHING). Here is an update... On this one, I playing with putting actual arms on it, and as you can see, I have it on a more traditional On Monk style tab, instead of my own version I was working on. Once I finish the front, I will begin on the back. Must say it will be nice to have my stuff on a ONE MONK base! [a href=" "] [/a]

Well, although the computer I was working on this has died, and I lost my USB card that had my work on this, I may have to PUNT! I LOVE having models as 2.5D! My SKELETRONS were supposed to be like that, but people overlooked the thin green lines that we're supposed to show you where to fold them. As I continue work on ERA OF WAR!, I am thinking that this will be the way to go with on the miniatures. I have 10 armies planned, and MOST of them will use similar structures, just slightly different varients. (Think WARHAMMER 40K, there are over 1,000 Space Marine Chapters, then there are the Chaos Marines... and so forth). My plan is to come up with a handfull of poses, them put your arms on the figures as you need them. I may borrow the "fold-over tab" idea from above, and then make a "sticker" for the shoulder pads. Once again, thinking of 40K, they have figures with various shoulder pads with different symbols on them. I could come up with a symbol for each type of unit, and say I had 5 basic poses... there are different arms/weapons you can add them, and then different shoulder pads. Once I did a basic set, I could do various colors of each. After that, I can make slight modifications to each (like adding /changing the helmets/ masks) and once again chang the colors slightly. In the end, I can produce armes carrying the appropriate weapons, and THEM color them respectively! So, there are 25 weapons in all (give or take). Make a right and left-hand version of each weapon. Then it is a matter of picking the color you want to use. Want your army to wear grey armor with red trim, then print out as many as you need, then pint out a page of grey arms, and you will have everything you need to make your army. Another trick I figured out is every faction I am making has two tech levels. Coincidently, each group has a primary and secondary color scheme. The Xiarn Dynasty has a scheme that is tan with red highlights. The Cier Empire has the colors white and tan. They both use Pulse Technology, so I can make all of my pulse weapons be held in tan colored arms. That will help to define the weapons as well. When you have a small pistol in someone's hand, it may be difficult to tell what kind of weapon it is. Say, this is a pretty spiffy idea. I will have to look at the army types and see what makes sense. I may make common weapons that everyone can use in certain colors (like flame-throwers) in a color like black or grey that will blend in with every army color. I have to say I like this idea. Now I have to research this a little more. I might be able to have something worked out on this fairly quickly (at least what I consider "quickly")!
