I am looking for one or two people to help me design a tabletop war game to go along with the figures I have been working on.
I am NOT looking for playtesters yet.
I have several core ideas, but I'm not a writer nor a rules lawyer.
Depending on how things go I'd like to have something to show by the end of the year (rules, 4+ armies, and terrain).
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in send me a pm and we can discuss it.
Thanks Ken

I'm thinking I might have been a little to vauge about this.
I think I might use this thread as a development type blog thingy.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, feel free to post them here.
I really like 15mm scale. I think its large enough for some good looking detail, but still small enough that an army still looks like an army. It also allows for a smaller gaming area.
It'll be palyed on a 2' x 3' table and uses 3 six sided die.
This game is stand based, with three to five figures per stand. Simillar to HOTT/DBA.
Stand sizes are 1" x 2" for all infantry and light calvary, and 2"x 2" for heavy calvary, large creatures and warmachines.
Each stand has six stats that representing its efectivness. Experience = The quality of the troops Movement = The number of inches that stand can move in a turn Combat = How well armed and armored the stand is Ranged = How effective the stand is with ranged weapons, not all stands will have a ranged stat Support = How well a stand can back up another Point cost = Used to balance stands
In addition each stand may have abilities that will allow it to do unique things. For example Wolf Riders have the mobile ability that allows them to ignore terrain when moving.
The game is played in a series of turns with a veriable length depending on the senario, typically 6-8. Each turn consists of a number of rounds where each player is able to activate their stands. The turn ends when there are no more stands to activate or each player passes. Each stand can be activated once per turn. A failed activation ends the round and play passes to the next player.
Stands can be grouped into larger units to allow a better chance for activation, ease of movement and for better combat effectivness. No unit may be larger than 2 bases deep and 3 bases wide. Large bases count as 2 bases when determining maximum unit size.
Activating units is done by finding the highest experience in the unit and adding or subtrating modifiers. This is the target number. Roll 2d6 and compare to the target number, if the roll is higher, then the unit is activated and can move, shoot, fight, etc. If the roll is less than the target number, the activation is failed. Units who fail an activation may still act, but with penalties. A failed activation ends the round and lets the other player try to activate a unit. If the activation is successfull, after completing all actions with the activated unit, the controlling player may attempt to activate another unit, and may continue to do so untill he either fails to activate a unit or chooses to pass.
Each stand may move up to its Movement stat each turn. Before moving, a stand may make up to a 45 degree turn in the direction it is facing. Then it may move up to its movement stat, in a straight line. Then it can make another 45 degree turn. The turn is measured from the center of the base. Units follow the same procedure but can only move as fast as its slowest stand. No stand may ever move through another.
Engaging an enemy unit is done by moving a unit untill it is touching the enemy. Then the attacking unit wheels untill it is aligned with the enemy and moved with the least disturbance till the bases are aligned.

Really sounds like "Song of Blades and Heroes." What new twist are you trying to add?

Songs of Blades and Heros is a game designed for skirmish level play. I really enjoy army level games like warmaster and HOTT. Most of the games I've looked at or played left me wanting. Warmaster is just to expensive, HOTT is to much like playing rock-paper-scissors, and Mighty Armies, while fun, is a little on the simple side.
I'm wanting to add abit more to the game than what SOBH has. I'm not trying to remake the wheel here, just come up with a game I feel is fun and challenging. I'll be the first to admit that alot of what I'm thinking of is borrowed from other games, I'm just hoping that what I come up with and how I put it all together seems at least interesting.
I know that Ganesha Games has an army level game in playtest at the moment, but I've been waiting on that for what seems like forever. Its a game I'll buy as soon as its released though.

OK, comparing your objectives to your plan it looks like you are making great progress down exactly the right track. My experience is mostly with RPG and a bit of skirmish, so I'd better leave you alone.

I'm in the same boat.. desperate for Song of Armies and Hordes. I think something like Warmaster but with much more variation between troop types would be great. A simple set of stats which are heavilly modified by special rules which give a stand character. One thing I'd like to see is specific unit upgrades e.g. adding a cleric to give a healing ability or a set of braziers to enable flaming arrows. This would also make each stand customisable.
