I was thinking in how to storage big bases minis. It´s easy if you base your minis in the tradicional onemonk way. Lately i was basing my minis with onemonk bases adapted to be flat. An image can be worth a thousand words, i base the minis like this pic To remove the base i build my minis like this The down black parts of the minis (i don´t know how do you call them), in this way I cut the base like this After this i glue two thicker cardboard strips in the other side of the base. When i glue the base it is the shape that it has. Leaving a space to slide the mini in After that you can slide the mini in or out the base I hope it will be usefull, i don´t know if somebody already do this but, i think that it´s a good solution. Cheers

I was trying to do something like this for a while. Your method solved all the problems I had with this type of base. Thanks!

This looks great. Could be the new standard. Is Labrat watching?

I have not tried it yet, but I think if you want to save re-printing and re-cutting figs you could put two little cuts onto a standard tab dividing it into thirds, you should be able to fold the middle forward and the ends back and slide them into these cool new bases.
I'll let you know how it goes
C.
Yep, works fine. I actually made a tab for a tabless fig out of clear tape, cut the strip of tape in thirds and folded the middle one way and the ends the other. Also, I was working with green cardboard (actually a tissue box) and I left and extra 5mm on the straight side that I folded under rather than using the thing strips of "shim" that Reivaj shows. I think it is less fiddly.

And a bonus pic showing the "stat cards" I made for F&B which I paper clip my figs to and they fit perfectly in the size 9 kids reebok box. The stuff in the front of the box is felt terrain, that I lie out on my felt game table and it all sticks in place. Attachments:

Yep, that's Sir Rob's Anky. He posted a WIP here without a rider and that is the one I took. I didn't edge it, but it looks OK

I have recently found an easy way to convert figs to this style of base. You cut the black tab in the middle of the feet and fold the middle of the tab forward and the end of the tab backwards. It is easy and you can use figs you printed years ago.

Pics please! . I continue basing my minis in this way but I do not use the cardstock strips anymore, i only glue the base not until the end, i leave the space to slide the mini without glue and works exactly like the my old method of cardstock strips.

Now may be a good time to talk about an ancient curse that apparently runs through my family on my mother's side. I don't know which ancestor did what to whom but for some reason I can't take a good picture to save my life. My mom just ended up with her finger in front of the lense, but for me it is weirder. I took three pictures of this basing "process" but only one is actually in the memory of the camera and I can't even get that to attach to this message. And I can't get into my fickr account right now either. I'm going to bed. I'll try again in the morning.

@reivaj - good idea! I like this type basing especially because my minis are mostly "grounded" so with onemonk-style bases some of them might be simply too tall plus in some cases got weird/unnatural look when assembled with not very well matching (to the minis ground) textures on bases. Your idea solves both problems. cowboyleland - good idea #2 It's quicker and easier to cut already glued tab in the middle and fold then remember not to glue the tab, then cut tab's at the bottom red line (sometimes additionally splitting both sides of tab when partially glued) and then only fold. Plus I think that it's better for overall figurine quality and lasting when it's properly glued as a whole, including tab. Figure unstability problem might arise only for specific mostly big and wide figures with standard (not wide) tabs, but it should be easy to avoid. Thank you guys!

kadmon, nice article on basing. I have been a fan of flat-basing for ages and keep trying to get folks to change the format on figures to be easier for this. Having the fold line at the top or to the side (like bravesirkevin and others) makes it much easier for flat-basing, instead of having the fold line between the base tabs. And it is still as easy to build the figures for One Monk-style bases or for the Litko or other plastic bases. I had forgotten this article. Thanks for the reminder
