There, I said it. The emoticons on this site are cute, but they're too big. They do weird things to line spacing and make paragraphs look sloppy. For example:

I originally said 50% would be perfect, but after seeing it in front of me, it's just too small. It's nice for line alignment, but the detail is lost. 75% have enough detail, but the alignemnet is still thrown off at that size. 100% 75 % 50% What about just using standard/stock emoticons ?

Sure makes it easier to read I wonder what happens in a paragraph Oh! That's not so bad, but it feels like shouting

Personally, I like the custom emoticons more than I like regularly-spaced lines of text...

Personally, I like the custom emoticons more than I like regularly-spaced lines of text... Me too. I like that I dont worry about things not being dress right dress on the forums I go to. I get enough of that in Grad school. I can see how others may not like it, but I do. ;D

It's not that important, but I do notice that I'm less likely to use the emoticons here because of their size. If I wrote more plainly and didn't rely on them to indicate irony, I might not be as bothered by this as I clearly am. Okay, I'm not that bothered by it.

Look, as soon as we've got this sorted we can start looking at fixing the problems in the middle east. Dave, get some sleep man!

Dave does make a valid point. On other forums I use emoticons a lot and even import my own, but I've never used one here

My only concern is that they don't match the smile you type, so you have to pick them with the mouse. Then they could be a bit too big, but i prefere to see this big space between the lines that that lightly diffente space that is enough to be noticed but subtle enough to need some seconds to understand why... Maybe making bigger fonts ;D Well, given the age of some of the forum members, it could be a good idea, in the long term

Does smaller mean neat and tidy? I go on some other forum pages and they all look the same - corporate style , staid and boring to look, at which turns me off reading the post. Make it lively and dare to be different, the people that contibute to this site are very creative so lets help to keep them onboard and be lively . Over use of smiley faces is bad too though

Let's start an "squishy-in-the-middle-failing-eyesight" club that advocates for fewer emoticons, bigger text and peace in the middle east. Step one: build a paper model of what peace in the world looks like.
