Don't ask me how, but I went from pondering Warcosm all the to purchasing MADRG. Okay, wait, that part was easy, it's on sale on teh Ganesha Games site for $4 untill this Sunday.
With Glenn's new Pipeline and Refinery sets out I was already itching to play some Necromunda, but it loks like MADRG will fit the same niche, with a bit more of a Gammaworld vide thrown in.
I've been putting it on the backcurner ever since Jim collaborated with Claudio and Ganesha on the MADRG Boardgame, but the timing was just perfect.
Haven't had time to read through the entire book yet, but it looks pretty solid. A strange combination of dead simple mechanics and lots of possible strategy (Chess with mutants and ray guns? )
Anyone else play Mutants And Death Ray Guns ?
Also, I'm looking for something to substitute for Necromunda, do you think that it's more of a MADRG or Flying Lead job ?

My gaming group gave this and Fear and Faith a try, but we just couldn't get into it. I have a homebrew system I'm releasing in the summer (for free no less) that we made over the last 20 years. It has some activation elements and works best as a small skirmish. My players just found MADRG to be a bit draggy. Maybe it was the scenarios we played? I don't know. I think we didn't give MADRG a fair shake.

Thank you for contributing to the conversation Dave. I enjoy hearing actual oppinions on it, rather than just reading glowing games reviews. I've been looking forward to your homebrew game since you mentioned it a while back. It sounds very promising, and you can't beat the price My group has played a lot of Gamesworkshop (rules heavy) and 2HourWargames (rules lite) games and MADRG seems to land somewhere in the middle. In any case I'll post some additional thoughts on it after I actually get a game in.

I got into Song of Blades and Heroes and related games, including MDRG, at the beginning of the year. Personally, I love the combination of simplicity and depth -- and I love post-apoc game settings. I have some MDRG stuff, including some solo play reports, in my blog: fantalonia.blogspot.com/search/label/mutants%20and%20death%20ray%20gunsIt's been a while since my last game but that's because I end up fiddling with different paper minis and games rules when I get free time -- but since I'm nearly finishing a "industrial zone" table, I'll probably get back to playing it soon. Differently from other Ganesha games, MDRG doesn't have (yet) an official point system. There is one on the discussion group but I don't know how much it is tested. Of course it's always possible to stat up a figure you have, especially after playing a few games to get a feeling of the effects of Quality, Combat and the special rules. Otherwise, if you roll for the characters' mutations and gear, you'll probably have to use figures that represent the characters "type" (human, mutant, robots...) I have no experience with Necromunda, so I can't really compare it to the other games. I have Flying Lead, I've read it but still have to playtest. The rules seem one step further in terms of complexity from MDRG but the "core" remains the same.

Also, I'm looking for something to substitute for Necromunda, do you think that it's more of a MADRG or Flying Lead job ? I'm still waiting to buy both (hope in an italian translation.... may an italian publisher not produce italian rulesets?!!!) but, from what i know from the yahooo group, you'll get the best buying both (in term of "Special abilities" related to firing, rays weapons and so on). I'm courious to see if, meanwhile, you'll switch to buyin an rpg.... says: B&B (bunnies and burrows.... yes, it exists!)

I have a ton of RPGs, but I'm in the mood for a mintures game. RPGs require to much time educating my gaming group about the specifics of a campaign world and rule sets.
Something like MADRG I can teach them how to play in under an hour. There is also less planning required, and I'd have a motivation to build terrain and models.
Gilius, if you have scans of those MADRG paper models I'd love to get my hands on them. I'm sure they would make a great addition to the hoarde. There is not all that many mutant plant and animal models out there.
Parduz, they have some of their games translated in to Italian. It's not easy to tell which on the Ganesha site, but on PaperMakeit they are clearly labeled as to what languages they are avaiable in. I think it mostly comes down to what languages the author of that particular book can speak.
I played TMNT and GammaWorld, and I could see playing mutant animals in MADRG, but fluffy bunnies ? Not unless they were Vorpal, or perhaps vampire, bunnies.

my B&B campaign was brutal and short, but I focused on the gritty aspects of what was going on. There was a marauding raccoon in the neighbourhood and a murderous cat named Snowball that was the bane of the rabbit's existence. I remember one rabbit kicked the cat into a pile of garbage cans. It was an impressive battle.

I play Fear and Faith and Flying Leads, thanks to God translated into Spanish, I believe that FL adapts more to Necromunda.

Thank you for sharing your opinion on the matter. What I think I'm going to do is break them in with MDRG and if they like it I'll add in Flying Lead. There is allegedly a point system for MDRG in the works. It would make combining the two a snap. I any case though, it looks like I will pick up Flying Lead.
