Ok, I am at another crossroad in ERA OF WAR!
I have been hammering this out pretty hard, and I keep finding some areas that need ironed out once and for all.
In case you haven't read some of my earlier posts, I have a system that will allow for TEN core factions and races. I am opening it up to where a player can create his/her own factions and races, but there is going to be 10 that coincide with the history of the game. (I am actually developing the back-story/fluff based on playtest games).
Here is a list of the factions I have so far (in no particular order) and their common and advanced technology levels. Do worry too much about what the terms mean, I just need you to give advice based on what I have here.
1) K'VYK EMPIRE: (I combined the K'VYK HEGEMONY and the CIER EMPIRE to limit the amount of alien races. One or two are fine. More than that, it is overkill in my opinion). Blue-skinned aliens with little facial features and cantered legs.
Pulse/ Projection
2) HUMAN MILITIA: (I REALLY need to come up with a better name for these guys). Human freedom fighters resisting the SYNFED forces on Earth. (Think of Jim's TERRA FORCE, or the Marines from the ALIENS movie).
Ballistic/ Pulse
3) JIN'DAN BROTHERHOOD: Nomadic warriors from the Middle East on a holy quest.
Automatic - Machine Gun/ Laser
4) MIDIAN KNIGHTS: The same thing as the Brotherhood, but an evil, twisted chaos version of them.
Laser/ Pulse
5) NARCOSSIAN DOMINION: Killer robots. Cold and evil.
Laser/ Projection
6) NATARRO CLANSMEN: Viking Orcs.
Ballistic/ Laser
7) SYNFED (Syndicate Federation): This is the human forces that joined and forced all of the planet Earth to serve them. (Think of it as the Empire for Star Wars, or that kind of thing).
Automatic - Machine Gun/ Projection
8) XIAN DYNASTY: Basically elements of fuedal Japan... only with big weapons!
Automatic - Machine Gun/ Pulse
Now... here is where it starts to get a little grey...
9) THE FORGOTTEN: In SYNFED life, if someone cannot carry the load, they are cast out. (This is kind of like Judge Dredd). Once they become outcast, they become homeless dreggs. They generally have low-rate cybernetics and live hand to mouth. Some of them are rallied together to fight back. Generally they fight for food, medical supplies or weapons. They lack access to make things work effectively, so they are scavengers and have low-tech.
This is kind of tricky, because where would the line be drawn between these guys and the Militia?
I also thought of taking this one step farther, and making them nearly animalistic. Think od the Borg from Star Trek meets the Reavers from Firefly. They are basically vampiric ZOMBORGS. (That is zombie-cyborgs in case you couldn't figure that out). This would explain why the Militia wouldn't work with them. This could be reincarnated corpses "living" due to the use of artificial organs.
Ballistic/ Automatic - Machine Gun
NOW for the BIG question...
I have ONE slot open and I am not sure what to put here.
I CAN tell you the only weapon configuration left is:
Ballistic/ Projection (which happens to be the oldest and most powerful tech mixes).
I have toyed around with the following:
a) Elves. The ballistic would be their bows, and the Projection could be their magic.
b) Lizard People. But then again, getting away from limited alien races.
c) Egyptian type race. These would have the heads of Egyptian Gods (kinda like StarGate), but they would also be VERY hard to incorporate into my INFINITE FIGURE DESIGNER I am working on. The story would work... they were here thousands of years ago, and now they are returning to conquer.
d) Furries. Then again, more aliens, but would be cat-like or wolf-like. Not a lot of options there.
e) Native American type people. Not necessarily wearing buckskins, but they can speak of the "old ways" and include mysticisms and rituals in their daily life. If I include routing and breaking rules, I can include the magical powers and abilities (like "HOLY TERROR" from my original game) that force enemies to retreat.
f) the UNKNOWN. Basically creatures that wear heavy armor and what they look like is unknown to anyone. They are never seen because once they are rendered unconsious, they have a self-destruct mechanism built into their suit.
This could open up a wide variety of option, including rules on self-destruct. I could also see them as having stealth suits that allow them near invisiblity. They don't have to be aliens, necessarily.
Ok. Now that you know what I am looking for, please give your imput so I can have a great army to fight against.
I will also need a name for these guys. I don't necessarily want them to be known as the Acients, or the First Ones, because that has been done to death. But I like the thought that they have a descriptive name like that.
OK! Start posting ideas and thoughts! I can really use your help!
