FYI I have made a call to the Newark, OH police re. this and alerted them to the situation. Hoping it's more a mundane "reading too much into this" on our part. Dave is an awesome guy and I'm worried about him. If anyone has contact info on him please forward it or contact the Newark Police at (Non-Emergency Telephone: 740.670.7200).
The police have contacted his wife and though they haven't located him she claims that he was referring to another issue. I am going to continue to try and contact him and I would suggest we all do the same. It's important for him to know he has a supportive community that cares about him and appreciates him. Which we do.
Hello all. I was contacted by both the police and kiladecus last night and all seems 'fine'. As a teacher I guess I am used to being proactive on these situations, but as someone who cares about people and especially friends who have helped me out in the past and have been supportive of me and my endeavors, I just couldn't sit back and wait to find out what was going on. Kiladecus is an important and vibrant member of this community. I am excited to see what he is going to build next.
Thanks again, @okum. I really hope, you, kiladecus, are fine. You can write in your posts whatever you want, but you should be aware, that some (brief) statements could cause an unwanted ( ) chain reaction ... .
kiladecus: I'm glad you're okay. Unfortunately, sometimes life is hard. Sometimes it is good, sometimes not. But ... we must react. Reacting is often more important than winning or losing. I wish you good luck kil. Ciao
David: Is really a pleasure for me to see that there are still honorable people. Thanks

Your great friend Kiladecus and have been for some time now. I also agree with sammo the forum does need you and I know a lot of people here enjoy reading all your post, they just have that certain extra touch or flavor text that is unique to you!
I also have VERY limited access to the internet at this time.
I have had ANOTHER situation arise thie week, and my life fell apart AGAIN! (This is the third time in three years that I was hit with a HORRIFIC situation in January).
A couple of years ago, I ended up in a hospital because of a "poor decision" I made. Dave Okum knew about this situation. He acted out of concern and I never knew what a GREAT friend I had in him until this happened the other day.
I will not be going into details, but I will say that I am "fine." "That which does not kill me only makes me stronger." I feel like I could call Superman a sissy right now, and live to tell about it.
As far as "irrational" actions, yeah, I make them from time to time... Every crisis is a learning experience. I know better than to try to drown my problems in fistfuls of Tylenol PM, I know that there are too many people that rely on me! My wife, my kids, and even a person or two here would miss me.
Was Dave wrong for his actions? I don't think so. I would never intentionally hurt myself or others, but if I had some of the information HE did, I can't blame him for acting. Actually, when I arrived to see my wife, se said that the police were there looking for me because they received a call from Canada... My eyes teared up, and I mumbled something like, "Darn you, Dave Okum!"
I know this is not the kind of place for all of this... I made this post to let everyone know that I will NOT be posting, making or doing anything for quite some time. I really won't have much access to this site, the internet or even a computer.
For the people that posted here, thank you. I do plan on returning *soon,* but until then, I have to get through yet another horrific situation and then I will come back and discuss female paper miniatures fashion... and I DO like the high heels, Mesper.
In retrospect, I should have said, "Goodbye for now. I really MUST be leaving." A little less dramatic... and a little more accurate.
Thank you all again for your friendship, and to Dave Okum, I owe you my life. Not for any actions I made, but for caring enough to make sure I didn't!
Take care of yourselves, and each other! I will "see" you all again *soon!*

Vermin King: I wish I hadn't been curious. Hadn't taken my temperature for a few days, and I'm running a slight fever again. I'm so ticked off. I guess tomorrow I will have to do the nurse hotline. Sun on the Beach...

Vermin King: Since my Location is either Randolph, Sugar Creek, Four miles SW of Sugar Creek, or Raytown, I wonder if I'm being shown as ignoring the order. As with all stats, you have to take them with a grain of salt

Vermin King: I see that Stay-at-Home is only about 45% effective in the US. That is 45% of folks with cell phones are staying put. Big Brother is tracking cell phone GPS. And why not?

marcpasquin: After Goscinny died, people thought it would be the end of Asterix as he was the writing part of the team but Uderzo managed to keep it going and eventually pass on the torch to new teams that still produce albums to this day.

marcpasquin: Asterix was such a big part of my childhood. Not only did I read all the albums but every years the cartoon movies were part of "Ciné-Cadeau", a holiday time programming block on Télé-Québec that showed animated movies for kids.

lightning: I cannot count how often I read Asterix and Obelix as a kid. Loved how it always ended at a big town dinner around a huge bonfire and the troubadour was gagged somewhere so he couldn't sing. Good times!

Parduz: I still love that comics. Some of them (around the middle age of Asterix production) have some of the best story/dialogues/jokes ever.

squirmydad: God I LOVED those books as a child. Sorry to see him pass.

wyvern: RIP Albert Uderzo, co-creator with René Goscinny of the Asterix comic books. [And no, he died from a heart attack.]
