Today was my first opportunity to try out the new Cameo. As you may know Silhouette replaced one of the registration marks with a solid black box. So, during the testing I did NOT alter any GSD file because I had a theory, which was to cut the models using the easiest method.
1. I printed the copies on card stock AS IS (i.e., I did not go into Studio to re-set up the page to print with the new registration marks)
2. Since most of the files are set up to insert the bottom of the page first the GSD file loads the image with the Registration Marks set to 'Inverted'. This means that the little black box is in the bottom left corner of the page.
3. The black box is exactly 7/32".
3A. I created a sheet that had a bunch of these black boxes and printed it out on regular paper.
4. FIRST TEST: In cutting out a little black box (with some room on 2 of the ends) I taped it in the lower left corner. I then loaded the print on to the 12x12 carrier that was included. In Studio (2.5 - the newest version) I left the Reg Mark Format set to Auto.
Registration Mark Detect: Successful! The page was cut out with perfect accuracy.
5. SECOND TEST: This time I drew and filled in the box using a mechanical pencil and ruler; same set up in Studio.
Registration Mark Detect: Successful! The 2nd page was cut out again with accuracy.
6: THIRD TEST: I changed the Reg Mark Format in Studio to Silhouette SD and printed the 3rd page with no alterations to the printed sheet.
Registration Mark Detect: Successful, however the cut was horribly off.
7. FOURTH TEST: I went back to drawing the box and had another great cutout.
Final Analysis: With the new Cameo it seems you don't need to alter previous GSD files as the Reg Mark Format remains set to Auto. Adding a small dark filled in box (depending on the orientation) seems to get around any other alterations needed to cut out the model successfully. I'm very happy with the Cameo and know I can move forward with a lot of projects with very little effort to make changes.
Oh, I also tested the Hoard 65 set with the .odt file extension and it worked just like a GSD file would. I have yet to test cut a sheet with all hand drawn registration marks.
Hope this helps for those looking at the Cameo.
