DAY 1
Creating characters. We decided to play characters based on the players themselves. It adds a little something extra when your playing yourself during the Apocalypse.
In My Zombie game, there are 6 attributes which denote how much natural ability you have. Reflexes, Coordination, Strength, Knowledge, Perception, and Presence. Those of you familiar with the OpenD6 game engine will recognize this approach, as this game runs on a core of OpenD6. The players divided 18 dice between those 6 attributes. Dice can also be divided into pips, 3 pips per die.
Skills are chosen based on the character's life experience. Start at age 17, you decide what job your character had for the next 4 years.
Each Job allows you to pick so many pips from a list of skills appropriate for that job. Skill pips are added to the base attribute to determine the total for the skill level. Some Jobs have different perks and allow a choice an additional pip in an attribute, or a weapon, etc... After a certain age dice rolls are made to determine if there is any attribute loss each term from the Physical attributes.
After that's done, players jot down what were their first 5 priorities when they learned about the zombies. Say secure a weapon, get some groceries, get the kids, get gas, and make the home zombie proof. The higher something was on their list of priorities the more likely they are to succeed in accomplishing it, but success is not guaranteed.
My Character failed EVERY Priorities roll.
He doesn't know what happened to his kids.
He didn't secure a weapon.
He didn't find food.
He didn't get gas.
He didn't secure his home.
He started the Zombie Apocalypse with the clothes on his back and his cell phone.
