OMG! Yes, indeed, it needs to be less complex, but some layered roof would be great.
One other thing I note in your buildings is that correctly you have no chimneys, but on the other hand, I see no 'smoke holes' in the roof. Am I missing something?

No chimneys for the vikings. These kind of houses would have been pretty leaky and drafty, with the smoke exiting at the eaves or through the roof. I suppose they would have had smoke holes at the eaves, so my historical accuracy probably isn't 100%.

It was just a comment, and as I look through images, it is kind of split on buildings with smoke holes and those without.
These really are outstanding. As my current view is other than using for Laketown, I am still very impressed with the docks which I am starting my Shanghai diorama with, and the buildings I'm using for a Viking settlement. I'll be using your fort to surround it.
Thank you very much for these.

I love the simplicity. I say don't change a thing. ;D Let people kitbash in smoke holes if they want with gimp/photoshop or a knife or something.

I was at a viking settlement reconstruction in l'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland. It must have been 20yrs ago now. The guide there was saying they thought there were probably pairs of smoke holes, one on each side of the peak, covered with flaps and you could open one ore the other depending on which way the wind was blowing. Not that you need to put that much detail in the models, but you could if you liked.

Thanks for the link... I guess I didn't look all the way down to the file. I was in a hurry while downloading on the run yesterday. These look great! Once again, I feel I should mention "How to Train Your Dragon." Very awesome work.

Thanks for this. I'm going to see about adding some ornamentation to the fascia and ridge to make this look a little more norse.

GM, do you think your triangle cross-section reinforcers, like on the trucks, would work? Set a longer one diagonally across the inside of each wall, then two shorter ones going in the other diagonal direction, forming an X. I don't have much success mounting card onto thicker card, but I think this would work.

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but one solution for reinforcing large card-stock surfaces is to glue in simple triangular brace. I've found that gluing in a horizontal brace at the mid-point works well. Attachments:

On his large truck models, he has reinforcers with a triangular cross-section, basically a triangular tube. run one corner to opposite corner, then have one that goes from the midpoint of the reinforcer to each of the remaining corners forming an X. Haven't tried it yet. Low on ink ...

GM64, how is your diorama going? You've got quite a few buildings and dock pieces. I hope we will be able to see them coming together.

This doesn't look like a good candidate for 'fold-flat' to me ...
Actually if it is done like the 5-tiered pagoda model out there, where this would actually be three buildings that nest into each other, it could be, but that doesn't appear to be the way it is designed.

Bless you and yours to a thousand generations, sir!
BTW, to add a little more variety to the buildings, I did your warehouse as a single-story version, too. It came out great.
Downloaded. You talked about kitbashing possibilities, but until folks download this spectacular model, I don't think they will fully realize the potential. Amazing.

Maybe not completely flat, but enough of the pieces could be done 'store-flat', that the others can be stored in the main structure. Took me a couple minutes to figure out where page 4 parts go, but this is extraordinary.

This looks AMAZING! It could also double as a Chinese restaraunt in a Super Hero City! ;D Very nice... downloading this now. TRIED to download it, but kept getting a run-time error... I will try again later.

Actually you are so good at Fold-Flat, I half imagine a pic in the future that looks like a giant pop-up card. Open it and ... Voila! ... Laketown, complete with docks and buildings. You have a very good eye for this.
Thanks, GM, for making this building available to us. I'm halfway through the first of two models in queue before this one, but I printed it off at 4 pages/page for a desktop model. Thanks.

Grendelsmother64, you have outdone yourself this time. The Great House is at the same time awesome, imposing, and the simplest possible build for something like this. I printed all of lake town (one of each house and six of each repeatable piece ) and am itching to build all that.

I ca't download the last two buildings. I keep getting "run-time errors." Would someone be kind enough to email me the two files, please. (My email is to the left...). Also, I downloaded all of your other buildings and vehicles. I want to do a "Hero Game" eventually, and these cars would be great. The Laketown buildings are going to be used in ERA OF WAR! I foresee squads of Minotaurs attacking this village soon enough.
