And also a thank you to One Monk for giving me something solid to work with so I could build an 'imperial guard' army to play Warhammer 40k with and not go broke doing it Grendelkitty

Now to find some Cardstock tanks to remove those "Dirty Plastic tanks".
Looks great. Amassing such numbers is fun, totally dunting at first but then once the numbers start mounting up... very cool.

So like wow!!!! They do look really good on mass. How long did it take you to cut and trim that lot?

Oy! Do not make me think about how long it took Actually, awhile, but it was done usually doing a squad or around twenty figures at a time like an assembly line. Cut them out rough, cut down the front side, score the middle line, glue em then cut the back half using the front as a guide, base and then add to the pile So far its working out really well for Imperial Guard, the only mod I had to do was to custom a sword into the seargant's hand rather than the standard grenade but the rest of the models fit.. Lasguns, flamers, grenade launchers, meltas, plasma, autocannons, lascannons, heavy bolters, snipers, rocket launchers. The only thing I'm really missing is something to use for mortars.. Also, I'm looking forward to any cavalry models from One Monk that I could try and mod into Imperial Guard Rough Riders. And I will also hope to see some kind of Ogre with a gun I could use for Ogryns Yes, I could probably draw something but I'm much better at tweaking than I am at full on creating. And I am happy to buy the models and help support Grendelkitty

Very cool!
I'm sure the auxiliary really helped flesh out the ranks as well!
2010 will be the year of tanks, guns, artillery, mechs, warmachines and all that other 3D goodness. JIM

LOL Seriously, I want to get a full range of infantry all built up for the tanks to blow up properly. Cheer up there will also be giant monsters too. You know, Ebbles makes tanks, Finger and Toe makes tanks, Worldworks makes tanks, and I think fat dragon make a couple. And do web searches, I must have a hundred tanks in my paper models folder from surfing the web. Plenty to tide you over, although I know, I would make the coolest tanks EVER! ;D

Let me get this straight? You're cutting the front side of the figure, then scoring and gluing, and then cutting the rear image using the already cut front side as a guide? I think if you score the whole row, fold, glue and then trim out the whole figure using the front outline as your guide you can cut your production time in half. The beauty of having that thicker outline on the back is to make the process of aligning easier... it gives us a little wiggle room in the alignment area. onemonkeybeau

G-Kitty you are double handling your work - Score, glue, fold. Then cut down each section and trim out the figure.
Just try it and I think you will find you are getting about a third extra time to play with.

Great looking army! Got to get to work finishing my recolor of the hybrids so I can get them up there. I also at some time came across a paper Leman Russ tank ill have to dig through my papercraft folder and see if I can find it for you....... I really need to get into that folder and do some organizing

Thank you, but I already have the paper models for Leman Russes I just got the box set of the three plastic ones on sale. I've tried putting together a few of the paper versions and I can never get them to come out right. The Leman is hard to proxy so I'm fine with the plastic ones. I did take others advice and found a few other paper models which I kitbashed into something I can use as a decent sentinal (Walker unit)

I think Jim could do great ogres with guns for his Terrans... His fantasy ogres are cool, and his style fits the bill, IMO. The Meatheads are convicts from death row who who are given the opportunity to get a life in comparative freedom, in exchange for some 'genetic reorganization an social indoctrination'... Nah... I dunno... Maybe not, just rambling...

For those that want to do it on the cheap, their are a couple of Yahoo groups dedicated to paper 40K style tanks. I won't post links here because we don't need Jim getting hassled, but anyone who is interested, let me know and I'll be happy to send links.
Oh, and since I seem to have never posted in this thread before...DAMN, GK! Thats an impressive army.

THat photo should be used in evidence in the 'card figures are better, not just stand ins' debate. That massed army has more tabletop impact and character than any plastic/metal force. At gaming distance it will be clearer who is who and as for transport... no brainer. And be honest, who actually manages to paint an army that size and have all of the models looking as good?

Now to find some Cardstock tanks to remove those "Dirty Plastic tanks". Lord Abaddon of Wormwood May I suggest this tank: BioNuke Cardstock Tank. I built this one a couple years back, and it looks quite good.

I bought his tower. Haven't put it together yet, but I want to get a set of Fat Dragon cliffs to set it on top of when I do. There are a lot of good artists out there making terrain and vehicles and stuff, but nobody can hold a candle to Jim's figures. Jim is the Tom Meier of cardstock!
Have fun! Steve

There are several great terrain makers, but only Jim makes truly great minis. I look forward to every Friday like some kind of weird cardstock addict. And just $3.95 a week keeps me sane!

I look forward to every Friday like some kind of weird cardstock addict. And just $3.95 a week keeps me sane! I was in high school in the mid-'60s. The way my school bus route ran, I could ride it all the way to my house, or get off a few blocks early and walk across a strip mall that contained a drugstore. The new comic books would hit the rack at the drugstore on Fridays (there were no comic book stores back then). That was when Marvel was first coming out with all their great titles, and I never knew what to expect to find, but I always knew it would be something good. The anticipation I feel waiting for Jim's releases reminds me of how I would look forward through the week to hitting the drugstore on Fridays and finding the new comics. Have fun! Steve

By the way, the fellow who did the tanks and tower was Leo Hartas. His website was "Fantasy Cutouts."
It looks to me like the paper engineering and artwork of his models were done the old-fashioned, pre-computer-assisted way, but I did find some places where textures repeated themselves. Very subtle though. Most the artwork looks like ink and watercolor.
The model seems intricate, and the instructions say to dry-fit the pieces carefully before gluing, to make sure you get the fit right, so I would probably say it's not for beginners.
Too much fun. I'm gonna go back to bed.
Have fun! Steve

The warhorse tanks are rather cool, the turret is detachable to allow swappin with alternative versions........which aren't yet available.
SO................. I emailed Leo through the contact me section of his site, asking about the models and pointing out the renewed interest here.
Got an almost instant response
We may see more of him yet

Mags,
Since you have opened a dialog with this artist maybe you could point out Jim's site and the monthly hoards. This just might pip his interests.
