Have i already said that i love your style? Great, can't wait to play it..... it seems that we are going to have another snowy winter Question (really just a question, nothing behind this): There's not a "better" title than Snowball wars? (it could also be appropriate, given the menacing snowman... as i said, i'm just asking)

This started as a minigame I will be giving to some kids as a present. I thought other people might like to play it too. I must admit the 'wars' was added to sort of place this as a "war-game" concept. I was also thinking Star Wars or Cupcake Wars. The game has four factions of kids (red, blue, purple and green) as well as zombie snowmen. It uses a faster, simpler version of the Katana Schoolgirls rule set.

Interesting! Could we know something about the rules? (Ups, I can see you wrote it, it's same as Katana Schoolgirls) I think I will try it with my little sisters and brother. ;D

OK, quick question. Should I have the minis be the standard black outline, cut out around the big black outline OR should I encourage a big white space around the figure? After all, I think this game would have a wider appeal/audience than the standard paper mini fan. I'm thinking of the way the game Armageddon Hour did it. . The white doesn't look half bad considering I will have a snow tiled game board. Is this a deal breaker? I mean if you really wanted to you could use a black marker and thicken the outline and viola..

How much work would a thick-outline PDF layer be?
Not a deal breaker for me.
What's the age range you're looking at?

I mean if you really wanted to you could use a black marker and thicken the outline and viola.. Not a deal breaker for me and makes sense to appeal to more people. If the poses allow sensible outlines to be cut with scissors, even better (though I can see this isn't so easy.) I think you also gave the answer -- experienced paper modelers can always cut closer to the contours of the figure and fill the white borders with a marker. In any case, looking forward to the release

It's really looking great...
What you need though, is a Dennis-the-Menace type character holding a suspicious looking yellow snowball (^_^)

I totally agree with Gilius. We can add the black outlines if we want them. On the other hand, could the outlines be an optional layer?

Where's Calvin? I actually like the white outline, suits the wintry color scheme of the game.

Or a snowball with a bit of rock sticking out When I was young I rolled a sizable rock into a snowball, just to get a little more distance out of it... it worked, hit my cousin square in the head with it. I still feel bad about that... so, I don't recommend it.

I see the snowman, have you thought about other fantasy-type characters? Like reindeer, abominable snowman, elves, gingerbread men, etc... ?

@ Dagger, where I grew up, people who put rocks or gravel in snowballs were committing a kind of warcrime. The thought was so awful I don't think it was ever actually done. The ploy does figure prominently in a novel by Robertson Davies, but I forget the title

That would be Fifth Business! Love that trilogy.
I agree about the warcrime thing. I remember I threw a snowball with a twig in it (by accident) and I was just about run out of town (well the schoolyard).
Big playtest tonight. Going to push the limits of snowball fighting! Even someone playing via Skype!

My 24-year-old son was never one for gaming other than cards, boardgames and video games. This might be the trick to sway him. I'm truly hoping all goes well.

As for ordering, I already posted the tuck box page over on the Serene Fist thread cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=okumarts&action=display&thread=2921&page=7The cover is just the first page of the PDF shrunk to 50% and glued to a 9"x12" sheet of construction paper that was, in turn, glued to the lid of a 4.25"x8.25"x1" box that I "upcycled" from a cake box. Dave, I know you are busy with the new release, but when you have a moment (maybe in the New Year) if you could write "Figures" diagonally in a 3"x4" square in the same style as you used for the card backs it would really "top off" the little box. Sorry for the pun (well, only a little

That box is great!
I was preparing the printing of the game some month ago, then the printer died. Now i have a new color laser printer, and i was ready to print but.... now i wonder if i could fit the game in a VHS plastic case.... mumble....

I don't have a VHS case around to measure, but the box with the dimensions above is just a little over-stuffed. I don't mind it not quite closing because before I put the little figure box in the bigger box was hard to open.
