Looks very interesting!
I really like the layout of the rulebook! I might even have to purchase the actual book now... <sigh>... oh well, yet another Christmas present to me! ;D

I bought this before christmas and the quality of the book is excellent.
The game seems to be very cool, but is of course a tie in to the minis, so there is no build your own models or anything.
Regardless, looks to be a great game with lots of options.
Ben.

No got it before christmas. I only just noticed this thread though. I've had it since it came out. (Don't own any figures though - too expensive) Ben.

Ive downloaded the rules from their site, and it seems like a solid ruleset. I love how they make the rules available like that so you can know if the game is worthwhile before buying. IF I can get my group to playtest it, I might pick up the book (though I am still waiting to test the song stuff with said group. One friend read over the books, but deemed the magic too weak and an all zombie army as too powerful without even testing it).
As for buying minis, they do look really nice but just not worth it, at least after shipping costs, international transaction fees, and other junk.

Get him to re-read the rules then...... zombies have quality 6. They are really cheap (8points as opposed to around 30 for a human warrior). But they will only activate 1 in 6 times, can only ever move once a turn and make a short move. So, they are cheap, very unreliable and easy to avoid, but if they get into combat they'll eat you. Sounds pretty accurate to me I thought the same about the magic system when I first read it, then realised that was just because I've played far too much Warhammer. Realising that, and remembering how silly the magic was in Warhammer sold me on Songs. Make him give it a go, it's quick to play and the mechanics make it far more a game of strategy and tactics than a game of having the best army list. Avatars of war looks very good, really polished.

I actually recognise a few of the names on the credits list - they're old hands from Games Workshop (Mike McVey, Mark Gibbons and Des Hanley jumped out at me).
I must say, one thing that intrigues me is the idea of stealing your opponent's soul to boost your own power. Might have to playtest it myself if I get the chance.

Stealing the soul = Nice Highlander rip, wonder how long it will be before we get a nice Highlander model.

Funnily enough, I was thinking more Mortal Kombat myself, Highlander hadn't even occurred to me. But now you've mentioned it, assuming I can get some good reference, hopefully the answer's not too long. I've already sketched out a pose I'm pretty happy with.
