EDIT:
First photo replaced for more sharp one (plus some magic fire effect below and around wand added in Photoshop, hope it doesn't stand against rules?)

So the second picture is the actual mini and the first one has had effects painted on? If so, then the first one doesn't count, the second one does though. Thanks for pointing that out.

I hope this doesn't imply a ban on all post-processing.
Hmm. Historically, I'm pretty sure there have been submissions with some post-processing. Cowboyland's winning entry was color adjusted to be "tin-type" black & white. I bleached the blue out of the background tarp in my last-year's entry. I'm betting other entries have had their focus adjusted, etc. [I'm pretty sure the cannon team group shot is modded, to great effect, I might add!]
Honestly, what what cameras can do built-in these days, it seems digital processing is pretty much a default with any high-end camera shot anyway. Wouldn't want a smart camera to beat a camera phone due to color balance, would we?
Might I suggest an alternative? How about full disclosure instead of a ban - this is what photographers do: Name the camera and list the digital post processing done - and then let us vote given that information.

It's not the post processing, like adjusting light levels, but adding something that wasn't there, before the picture was taken, like swirly color effects, extra limbs, start to wander into a grey area. I'm trying to avoid grey areas, disclaimers like "some magic fire effect below and around wand added in Photoshop" are great; they let everyone know what's really there.

So the second picture is the actual mini and the first one has had effects painted on? If so, then the first one doesn't count, the second one does though. Both pictures are real mini photo. First one is taken in dark room with strong flashlight - I wanted dark / black background, so figurine kinda emerges from darkness. (Actualy because of flashlight some parts of figurine slightly alternate or even lose colours; for example mount armour is more metal / blueish but on photo result is almost white) What I did during "postprocessing" is just contrast and balance correction (which I think should be considered as normal procedure) and then added magic fire effect - you can see exactly what was added on attached below picture. Of course after all picture was trimmed and converted into 72dpi in order to maintain reasonable file size. In my opinion this regrettable "effect" addition doesn't interfere too much if at all into this photo - it might be treated as kinda background / setting. =>>Anyway, just to avoid any needless discussion and / or misunderstandings I'd like to WITHDRAW my submission.

Every competition has to have rules, I think that for a hobby competition ours has a good system and good rules. And this specific ruling is fair, to me, at least. The composite photo that mesper put up explaining the photo edition is perfectly good to demonstrate the guidelines for submissions.
I would like that the submission to not be withdraw, it's an excellent miniature! The photo without additional elements included should be perfect to take into account for the competition. But I understand that this is mespers decision. just giving my thoughts on it.

I agree with Hackbarth, the undead Mage looks awesome and no one wants you to withdraw!

I don't accept your withdrawal. You met all the requirements of a fair entry; photo of a built mini and an explanation disclaimer as to why one of the pictures looks different. All good. The black background does look more dramatic. Keep it in, there's no controversy here, just a discussion over a fine point of detail in the rules that I hadn't thought to clarify in the submission guidelines. It's still a learning process with this Showcase, thanks for helping it become better defined and grow a little more. Keep it in.

Sorry this one isn't to be part of the contest too. Maybe should just have settled for the dramatic black background with no post-processing (thought for next time, maybe)? Mesper, just did a quick check on that discount link, but the RPGNow page is still showing $2.75 as the price, which I think means there's some kind of glitch, as usually whatever price comes up on the product page is what you'll be billed (you have to type in an amount on that page for the "Pay What You Want" goods, even if it's $0, or it won't accept your order, for instance). [Edit: Mike, you just beat me to it! ] Still hoping you might reconsider your withdrawal of this figure...

Anyone else managed it??

Indeed - many thanks Mesper. The original url code line was correct from the RPGNow message you quoted, so it looks as if the mistake is theirs. Then again, it's a computer...

Mesper, I'm very sad that the confusion and conflict arose that caused you to withdraw your submission. It was a most worthy and excellent one, and would have certainly been a strong contender for the best in class. Thank you very much for your generosity in sharing the set with us, and for doing a special edition for the Cardboard Warriors that includes the enhancement in contention. I'll have to track down some transparencies so that I can fully integrate that into a future build of the figure. I've a simpler idea in the meantime...

@ WackyAnneI'm glad you liked it I'll have to track down some transparencies so that I can fully integrate that into a future build of the figure. I've a simpler idea in the meantime... Arghh...YES, right - "transparent"... just realised - shame on me that I didn't mentioned somewhere within the set (instruction etc.) that page with all these "magical effects" might or even should be printed on special transparent or translucent sheet for better result. Thanks for bringing this up
