Hey Guys,
Just wanted to get your input into the new range of slotted paper bases I'm working on. These bases will feature a 1.5mm slightly curved slot to hold tabbed paper figures. Right now I have some basic sizes picked out:
Square 20, 25, and 50mm Circle 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50mm Rectangular 50x25
For colors options I was just going to stick with 3mm clear and 3mm opaque black.
I made some in the past as a special order, and still have some somewhere...
With this in mind, is this something very many of you are interested in? I know there are other basing methods now, but they don't work well with the laser cut bases.
It will take me about a month to get these in the system and ready for purchase in Jim's Lab to test at first, but will be moved to full product if they sell well.

I bought a bunch of these from you back in the day and I love them. They keep the minis flat for storage, never spend time basing and stuff, the clear base blends into the scenery nicely. Best paper miniature purchase I've made ( well besides the actual minis and the tools I need to build them).
My only suggestion would be to increase the slight-ness of the curve so it grips the mini a bit more. Sometimes during gameplay when someone lifts a mini by the paper the base slips off.

I'm interested too! How are you making them? Is it something you'll only have a limited supply of, or will Litko offer them for a while? Will there be bulk discounts? ^^

Absolutely want these! Had sent Litko a message via FaceBook about just that.

I'll make note to make the radius tighter on the slot.
They are laser cut acrylic plastic bases about 3mm thick.
We will offer them in sets of 10, 25, 50 and 100 packs. Each larger quantity gets a slight discount, with the 100 packs being about 30% off the 10 pack size.
Like I mentioned, I may not be able to get these in the store until next month at the soonest! JIM

I'm having trouble picturing how these would work. Are the figures going to be flat on the ground with these, or if not will they still hold figures if I cut off the tabs? I like when the figures have their feet on the ground. I do seem to suck at making the paper bases of that type though, so I would certainly not mind buying some good ones.

Oh, and by the way, my own response is HELL YES! While your basing method (and similar variations thereof) is terrific, I love the versatility and ease of use of these. As I've said elsewhere, I rather spend my time cutting new minis than bases any day. And as can be seen in my vignette for Papercuts 2013, getting a base to match or blend can be tricky. I'd love it if you could offer a variety pack with a discount as well, similar to other offerings on your site. And please consider pill-shaped, and hexagonal or octagonal. While Pathfinder may be my system of choice, I find it a little stupid that there are no facing rules (ok, you wargamers are rubbing off on me!), and really stupid that horses take up four squares instead of two (fixing that is my 2nd house rule, after no psionics). This is great news, Jim, and I'm sure there will be enough demand to get them into the store permanently. Heck, if I had paper minis for sale, I'd plug them in my releases. My first Litko order will include not only these gems, but regular bases so that I can start rebasing all the bargain HeroClix I've been picking up lately. I've been putting off this cross-border purchase in the hope that you'd make this paper mini bases available again.

I have a ton of these and love them to death. You can see how the transparency works for the terrain in my pics from Wacky Anne's post above this and in these:

I will stop lurking long enough to agree - these are fantastic! I would pick up 10-packs of each size of the clear circular bases.
Ok. Now where was that quiet lurking spot I was in... oh! here it is...

I'll get some pricing info up once I run the numbers. I'll also be adding 3mm plywood to the mix of material options, just in case someone wanted to finish the bases like regular miniatures. Should have more specific info by the end of next week and a release date. JIM

Hey Wacky Anne, it was no problem whatsoever! I like being mistaken for the very talented artists around here ;)My skill level is very like Order of the Stick. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy. I just didnt want people deluging (is that a word) Sir Rob with questions about the set or bases as He may not know about the pics. One thing with the bases, and this is in no way a criticism, at all, just a usage instruction. If you notice in the Spot of Bother pics, the name of some of the figures on the tab is magnified by the acrylic and can be read while the mini is on the table. Just do what I normally do and go over the name with a black sharpie when edging the model and that takes care of it. I did a rush job on these to get the pics up so people could see the great set, and forgot to do that until I had posted them and noticed it. I'm such a goob sometimes. Jim, I was looking through the old sets and noticed some that I don't have bases for, like the Halloween props set.(pumpkins, cornrows, etc. Also, some of the dragons on this site.) Would it be possible to make an 80mm pill in the 3mm clear acrylic, as maybe a special order? I don't know how many people would be interested, but I am and we could go the special order link route if we needed to. No rush though.

Have you thought about using Smoke Gray as a color? I think it might give a nice "shadow" visual effect.

I might be interested in obtaining a hand full of these, but it all comes down to price and shipping cost, since hauling anything and everything from the US to Europe is getting more and more expensive...

I've added 1 inch - 25mm hexes to the list.
I'll set it up so you can choose from a variety of material and color choices, then see what sells best and make those a stock item and the rest as a special order option.
I should be able to get these setup this coming week, and have the final info here for the release date and prices. JIM

I hear you. Since they changed everything up at USPS and eliminated ground shipping (sea shipping in your case), everything leaving the US is almost always much more in shipping cost, sometimes 2-3 as much. It's the main reason I've stopped backing Kickstarters of the non-virtual variety, and haven't ordered anything stateside in a long while (even when it's the top of my wish list). And I'm just in Canada. I'm planning on making an exception for these bases and a few other items of interest from Litko, and hope they are uber-good at minimizing the packaging for maximum shipping efficiency and economy

Alright, I have some prices and design art for you guys to chew on until I can get this mess setup in the store. I added a 1 inch- 25mm double hex. In total there are 192 configurations for this product, so it's going to take a while to enter into the store system. It will be just one product page with drop downs for the material and quantity so I don't end up with a bunch of product pages. I'll post the release details once I have samples cut, photographed and it's in the store, but plan on a month after I get it entered. So, just to go over the basics: 12 shapes and sizes to choose from. Available in 3mm craft plywood, clear, translucent bronze, and opaque black Available in quantities of 10, 25, 50 or 100

- 100 clear bases (average)..........~30$ - (guessed) shipping................~40$ - import fees (21% of the total)....~16$ No way i can afford about 80$ for 100 bases. Sad. (This is not against you and your prices, Jim! They're great -that's why i'm sad- . It is that i'm cheap... )

(This is not against you and your prices, Jim! They're great -that's why i'm sad- . It is that i'm cheap... ) Just about what I added up. USPS did hell of a job dividing the world in an age when it was shrinking to a nice global neighborhood... Sorry, Jim, but under these conditions I simply cannot afford the bases. As much as I'd love to get a pack of them, they exceed my budget. Will the bases be available in general retail? If yes, I might grab a pack in my local hobby store...

I totally understand, shipping rates have exploded, I order lots of toys too!
Figures in comfort is our official distributor / reseller in Europe. It may take some time, but you can order through them, you'd have to wait until they get to reship it to you from them. If you patient, this may be the way to go. JIM PS: I think shipping for the 100 25mm bases would be $10-12 overseas. We have a built in shipping calculator in the store, you could add some equivalent custom bases to a cart then check shipping.
