I used to enjoy making up systems like that! They make for a rich experience, that is, very specific and concrete, highly unpredictable, yet easy to use.
I made up a very simple critical damage system for Scurvey Dawrgs that would tell whether the pirate would end up with a hook, peg leg, missing eye, ear, nose, etc.

eheh.... seems you run games more bloody than mine What happens if someone loose the nose he already had chipped out?

By third level my kobold pirate was basically just a torso with one eye and a bunch of pegs and hooks hanging off of it. He had a bad run of luck with a GM who liked particularly bloody results. Fun games though.
