I hate foamboard. I was trying to make some TLX tiles and my foamboard is curved now (it wwas when I bought it 2 weeks ago!). Its weak, its touchy to cut, and its too light for my tastes.
I don't need the TLX tabs as I use that sticky poster putty to hold tiles in place.
Im assuming that I would run into problems with things that go higher that 1 floor level. But could I in theory use chipboard for TLX instead?
What other problems would/could arise?
Thanks

I'm really surprised to hear about your experiences with foamcore. Maybe it's different stuff than what I'm used to, but I have tons of foamcore, and use the stuff all the time. I leave it leaning against my wall for months at a time before cutting it down to tile-sized pieces, and I've not had a problem with major warping. I won't say *no* warping, but not enough to ruin anything. Moreover, it's really sturdy. But, I won't argue with your experiences - they are what they are.
As you observed, you'll run into some problems with TLX and additional floors. The roofing system doesn't NEED to use the TLX tabs, but there are trusses that take advantage of it. Holding the higher floor pieces together will be a problem, and that includes using neat pieces like railings and balconies. The Hinterland Cliffs walls are designed with 1/4" ledges that fit the foamcore tile pieces perfectly. If you're using something else, you might need to get a little creative.
Best of luck. I know other people use other materials, but I'm nervous about how well the TLX system will grow with you if you want to do more interesting builds.

I was also thinking is it feasible to make walls (with the posts of course) to just set onto a tile without anchors? Would the walls stand up alright?

You can, but it's really not stable. Every tile-and-wall terrain system has *some* mechanism for holding the stuff in place. The anchors work really well. Some folks have done neat things with magnets, but I haven't. You can browse the WWG forums and see things people have done over the years. The magnet idea seemed pretty sweet.

I worked a little with the foamcore, and i learned that it bends 'cause the tension created by the glue... some glue are worst than others, i don't know why. You could try to one of your bent tiles to apply glue on the others side and see what happens in a week.

Yeah magnets do sounds cool. Well maybe ill just make some chipboard tiles with anchors and see how far I can go with it that way. I just refuse to use foamcore, I guess I can deal with the anchors Thanks again man!

You might also want to look into PVC board. That is what I use for my Terrainlinx. It's made out of PVC Plastic. Very strong and it doesn't warp from glue unless you lather it on like a 5 year old in kindergarten (minus what you eat of course). You can purchase it in 5mm thick sheets.

Magnet keepThat was my test version using all manner of random metal bits, after that I started using small square bits used for affixing shade cloth. Warning it's a heap of work, but magnets do work. I should have added 3m super 77 is about the only glue I've found that doesn't warp foamcore but I know others have more luck than me in regards to glue and warping so you may need to experiment a little

It can be cut with a utility knife. Like paper it has an orientation of easy cutting and difficult cutting. Something to do with the fabric of the plastic.

Yeah I used an "Elmers Board Mate DUAL Tip Glue pen"....Strongest formula for bonding materials to Elmer's Foam Boards!
So much for getting the right thing! LOL

I only found that pen useful in very few areas. Pick up a bottle of Zip Dry and thank me later

Sirrob01 - I *love* that ruined keep. It was really inspirational for me when I started considering doing stuff like a TLX castle conversion, and destroyed Himmelveil walls.

Thanks guys for all the help.
I just ordered 2 packs of TerraClips and the Malifaux Builldings. What I think Im going to do is make templates from them and convert any TLX textures I buy to TerraClips.
The time and trouble making TLX just isnt worth it for me. TLX is a great concept but it isnt for me. Though I will make props such as tress etc most likely.
From what I can tell its going to be a breeze to convert TLX to Terraclips once the templates are done.
