ok so the Core of Humanity is giving me a hard time... well they give everyone a hard time but without going into the story here's the problem their colors are black and red. though they look fantastic in the comic and make for some dramatic moments in the story they don't translate to paper minis very well... the Troops just come out looking like a black shadow with some red blobs in them. I tried changing the snipers cloaks to a green color but that doesn't really work either. even the heavy flame battle suit is supposed to have more black than anything else ... but as you can see I changed the colors up to make it more visible as a mini. soooo the question is, in your guy's experience is there a way to make this work or am I just going to have to change the colors for these guys ( real tragedy ) they look great in the story.

I'd switch black to a 50~60% gray and then add a a lot of hotspots and shining in light gray, and shadows in black. I think you could google for some of the (dead) Rackham's Therians images and use the paint tricks as a reference. This:

These are other wonderful figures ... and mine is just a personal impression ( I can't print them in order to verify this ). I hope someone tries to print them and then tell us how they really are.
I watched them, at an average height of 30 mm., And unfortunately many details disappear and the figures become almost entirely "black".

Thanks for the kind words and tips guys! I'm going to give it another go with the dark grey and see what I can come up with. I think Jim was the undisputed master of paper-minis or at least he seems to be a legend around here LOL I think his stuff is pretty amazing and if I ever get half that good I can die a happy man LOL ! All right Core of Humanity round two ding ding !

An early attempt at a black model.... Same technique I'd use when painting a sculpted figure. The highlight is a transparent white layer.

Great work Jose!
It is only a matter of time until we all need to do something like this. Any chance you could post a little tutorial?
