I was wondering if anyone could share their opinion and experience on the FD EZ lock system. Do the pieces need to use the EZ lock mounts or do they function decently stable just using bobby pins to attach to one another just lying on the tile? Does anyone permanently mount the pieces to the tiles? Just wondering how others use this system as I have no experience with it and was looking at what FD offered recenlt. Thanks

Build LOTS of Fat Dragon stuff and never use EZLock floors and rarely use the connectors. I just bobby-pin it all together. My simple hackery works just fine for 1 level structures, but doesn't work great for multilevel FDG stuff unless you build a floor to act as a tray...
I find all foor-based attachment systems too restrictive (the same thing for WorldWorksGames' Terralinx system.)
If you do a search here for my builds and over on the WWG forums, you can see pix of my builds and also at WWG my kitbash for TLX free standing supports...

Try the search link at the top of the forum. Set "search for author" to "oldschooldm", set "search in forums" to "User build galleries" and change "return first" to "all available". Then, scroll the results and look for the pretty pictures. I think that might get you what you want.

I’m a huge fan of FDG EZ-lock system. When I first started I thought that you had to cut a hole in the foam board for every pillar but I quickly learned that that isn’t necessary. Tom (FDG creator) even suggest in his instructions that you only need a few EZ-lock pillars per board. I start by mounting a corner pillar and then work my way out from there. I’ll assemble as many walls as possible and when a long wall or sets of walls seem to be flexing too much I’ll insert a pillar. I also use temporary glue dots (Michaels, Office Depot, etc.…) to mount standalone pieces or non EZ-lock pillars.
I never permanently mount walls to floor tiles. This method works well for quick dungeon building on the fly but I prefer using a sheet of foam board and skinning it with the appropriate ground tile and then build on it prior to game play. If you’re worried about the fog of war effect you can cover unexplored areas with cloth (t-shirt, towel, etc…) or drop in rooms and halls as the players find them.
Do yourself a favor and check out oldschools builds, they are fantastic. We have fed off of each other’s builds for some time now. He has some great ideas that I have borrowed (stolen) and he has posted that he was inspired by some of my builds. That’s why I love it when someone else posts pictures of their builds. They can be much more inspiring than the original maps. Another great source for inspiration can be found on FDG proboard. Check out Afet, Cleanthes, Scheker, and many others I can’t recall at the moment. My posting over there are listed under vwilliams32407.

They end up in Google Image search and all your favorite designers get more sales and want to do more models! Win-Win-Win!
