Wizard's Tower(Wargame Vault picture) I found this terrain piece on Wargame Vault and was very much attracted to its quirky appearance. With its roof like an outsized Wizard's hat and well buttressed structure to guard against damage from possible explosive experiments I decided that I had to have it. Towers of one sort or another are always useful to have on the wargaming table and with this one being so different to the terrain pieces I already owned definitely went in its favour. I'm not sure what makes it especially abandoned, but there is a smallish padlock on the door. I modified my tower so the door can open and I'm not using the window awnings, but otherwise it's going to be a standard build. One difficulty I did have though was that I had to print the tower PDFs at 95% to get them to fit inside my printer's margins. The scrap oversized printout did get used though as I cut it up to make the interior stonework as with the door open it is kind of visible. I suppose I could do a basic interior, but I haven't made up my mind yet. I will keep the roof removable though to keep the possibility open. Pictures soon.

I really like the 'vintage model' feel to this. I've often wished l'imagerie de epinal models were more easily scalable.
I agree that the windows look a bit to pristine for an abandoned tower

Cool kit. An easy mod to make it look abandoned is to simply remove some of the windows (Or cover them with black.). Here's how I do a quick and dirty interior: Reverse every exterior piece, and print at 99% of the exterior size. You can slip it in place even after the exterior is built. If you decide to remove the windows for a ruined effect, this interior should be great.

I liked, would only change the roof to something more interesting, maybe an octogonal cone.

I'm thinking a dormer on the roof would be cool, perhaps with a balcony? When I've caught up with my current (30 million) projects, I'll fool around with it and see what I can do.

I think what I'll do is build this tower with an interior using some suitable RPG furniture pieces to dress it out. Printed out exterior pieces have already been glued inside the walls as a reinforcement, only I didn't think about exactly lining up windows at the time, but they do look Ok. So it won't so much be an abandoned tower, but one where the Wizard has been absent for a short while. Having a play about with the roof sounds a worthwhile experiment, though so far I've managed to spike my hand at least once on the pointed top of the standard roof so for all its simple appearance it is quite strong.
Once I've completed the first model I think I will build a more abandoned looking tower with missing windows and perhaps a partly burnt out roof. Actually a burnt out roof and a suitably charred looking interior would explain the reason why the tower might have been abandoned with a spell or an experiment plainly having gone wrong and possibly causing the wizard's demise. I'm having a lot of fun with this tower, I haven't really built up any terrain pieces since my now adult children were young and we'd play games of WHFB together, so it's kind of refreshing to be doing this.

That sounds awesome - the damaged roof invites looking into the building (so your players can go "ooooo!") I know hou you feel about an early piece being inspirational to building more... I started wanting to do interiors when I saw @sirrob1's post about the Observation Tower.

My old HP 640c printer died tonight. Seems to be that some of the circutry that controls the movement of the print cartridges has gone futt. I'm going to see if I can replace it (with yet another second hand) photo quality A4 printer which would be a step up in the print quality stakes. My printer dying was very annoying though as I wanted to print off some timber floor textures as well as some RPG Wizard's lerkum type furniture so I could make a start on the tower's interior.
However I did get the buttress parts assembled and additionally reinforced inside with cardboard cut from a green tea box. I like green tea so I have no end of empty boxes to cut up for such a purpose. The buttresses make the tower look extremely well anchored to its foundations which I guess is pretty darn essential for a wizard's tower. As an experiment I trimmed 12mm off the tower's roof making the cuts on each face of the roof very slightly curved rather than straight and I must say the tower does look much better in my opinion without such a heavy looking roof. The tower looked like it was hiding under a large hat before I trimmed the roof.
Pictures soon. My camera is busted so I'll have to see what I can do with my cellphone tomorrow.
