Is anyone here familiar with the Valdamar series of books by Mercedes Lackey? I was just wondering about a set of mini's, terrain and scenery based on the Valdamar world.
Any thoughts?

I really like Misty as a person and I love her work. I go back to that series all the time but she is painfully protective of her IP. It would not be difficult to create models specific to that world but she has been known to shut down even not for profit endeavors in the past when she found out about them. Even within the confines of her own fan club any fan fiction must meet very specific guidelines.

I've read quite a few books in the Valdemar setting but to be honest I don't remember any non-generic locations. Is there anything specific that struck you as model worthy?

I have been trying to find a way to contact her, but so far I've drawn only blanks...

I was thinking of something like the Collegium and surrounds - Healer's college, the Castle, etc. It would have to be somewhat generic, though. At least until I can contact Ms. Lackey, herself.
As for figures, those would be easy, Mages, Pages, Heralds, the Queen, Griffons, The Tayledras (Hawk Brothers), The Shin'a'in (nomads), Healers (green garb), and of course the Companions.

I keep looking for a way to contact Misty, but no luck yet. She seems to keep herself well insulated.
I think just a small set, with full credit for inspiration to the Great Lady, herself might be OK. But, only if they are not distributed for profit. At least unless or until we get her blessing.

I think that as long as you listed them as fan art and no money was exchanged then you wouldn't need to contact Ms Lackey. I have found that in this kind of thing it's always better to ask forgiveness than permission. My wife is an author and she has to protect herself quite I bit. I have never really hidden myself much and am currently learning why they do this.

"Cursed Oathbreaker your honor is foresworn and worthless the vows you have made . . ." Much as I admire the Heralds I would probably start with Tarma and Kethry and Warrl, then of course Kerowyn. And yes that lyric is from memory. I have listened to pretty much all available music from Valdemar available through Firebirds Arts

OMG! There's music? Cool! I know that line, too, from rereading the books several times...they're old friends to me. Did you ever read Firebird? Wonderful tale!

Can't resist putting this link here, it's Stravinsky's Firebird! A stunning and moving piece of music and perfect to listen to while reading Mercedes Lackey's Firebird. The visuals are stunning, too. Eat your heart out Faulks!
