Many of those would work well as Space-Creatures as well...
Might have to pick that set up...
Then again, my printer is out of ink and I'm strapped for cash atm... so maybe not.

The Dwarf Dragon Fighting Mecha and Dragon Set is taking shape! (dwarf for scale)... Dragons will be interesting. I'm considering 2.5 D for the wings. What say you public?

2.5D should be awesome...

I'm probably in the minority, but I love having a 2d option, simply because 2.5d doesn't jive well with how I store my minis. If it's just a matter of having some extra bits glued in place, I can either live with trying to mush it flat or mod it to be 2d... Or maybe I'd get clever and come up with a way to make the 2.5d pieces slot in place.

I'm trying to figure out the .5 and yeah, I think a second wing glued on would be the .5 element. That way I think it will work for both.

I'm imagining doing something like how oldschooldm does some fold-flat buildings - when I sandwich the mini together, I might leave a slot open that the wings could slip into. More complicated than I'd normally like, and if the tabs are too small relative to the wing size, it might not hold together well. But, in reality, I'd have a 2d version made first 'cause it's quick.

Colouring dragons. This is a Wooly Dragon. There will be 4 dragons and 4 dwarf mecha in this set. I will have 2d and 2.5 options for the dragons.

I'm interested to see how a pro handles 2.5D dragons. I just kinda made my technique up as I went along.

I'm a 2D purist when it comes to printed minis, for both aesthetic and practical reasons. To me, inkjet printers make really great flat minis, but pretty poor 3D minis. The 2.5D compromise just accentuates the fact that the minis aren't true 3D. I'd rather do something less ambitious really well, than something much more ambitious in a way that is, to my eye, not very satisfying. Of course, that's just my opinion. But thanks very much for the 2D versions, David.

Nice! I know you're getting more experience with print-on-demand stuff. Any thoughts as to whether there might be print-on-demand versions of these via onebookshelf? Otherwise, I'll try to concoct a PDF that will work with lulu.com - a glossy color cover with black-and-white pages at about 25 pages is only $3.75...

Yep, I am still having problems with Save the Day POD, but Anime Hack worked a treat. I hope this one is as easy to get POD.

Erm... There's a typo on the cover... You wrote "or" instead of "of"...

Also... calling the hive-mind, just wondering if anyone has been having problems printing the Darkfast Dungeons Basic Game Rulebook. I'm running Adobe 10 and haven't had an issue. A patron was asking if this was a problem with anyone else.

Mine printed just fine. If it matters, I am using whatever the newest version of Adobe Acrobat reader, and whichever version of the file comes in the retail purchase. Did they say exactly what the error was?
The only thing I ran into is if I cancel a print job, an error blocks me from trying to print that same file again until I close and reopen it. However, this happens with any PDF, not just the rulebook.

DFD RPG is in playtesting. I've gone back and forth on this one and finally, I've decided that the Origin/Class works best for what I want to do with it. I should have this out by the end of March. I feel awful it's taken this long, but I know if I rush stuff it will suck. I don't want this to suck. I'm going to have to play it.

For what it's worth, I finally picked up Save the Day during the BAMFsies sale and gave it a first read over the weekend. I really like the way the Origin/Class system works in that game to make a vast number of possible characters in that game. I think that system will translate nicely to the DFD RPG, especially if you're developing it as a quick-playing, rules-light RPG alternative to crunchy games like Pathfinder and 5e. It also opens the door to expansion sets and supplements, if you're planning to do those yourself or to open the door to some sort of DFD-compatible license. (I notice that Hero Kids has a few third-party supplements available produced under an official compatibility license). I'm looking forward to reading and playing this, and maybe even writing for it, if that's a possibility!

It's been too long and ironically, it existed long before the tabletop boardgame. The Basic Rules will have 5 classes and 5 origins so it will need expansion, for sure. I'm looking forward to playtesting the magic system this month. It's expanded from the Save the Day game and some compatible rules will show up in the Deep Magic supplement for Save the Day as well. Writing games is so much different than just playing them... You could get a start on this by building Thug or Agent Rank Characters with Save the Day and using them as fantasy mooks.
