I recently ran into a little dillema. My newly assembled and based 2.5d dragon doesn't fit into the storage case that I am using for teh rest of my paper minis. Anyone have any ideas for a case that can fit several dragon size things, and preferably with seperations?

I have used a moderately sized lunchbox in the past. The one with the snap down flaps on all four sides (if tou know what I mean) I never used seperators with it - just bunged the minis in it and off I went. I guess you could just MAKE rectangular boxes to fit inside it. Rectangular TUBES would do the job. Nothing fancy - a strip of cereal box card folded into four and taped would do it. DaveA

Now you see the problem with 2.5D figures. they require just ans much transport gear as plastic or metal figures. This is why I keep trying to convince everyone that flat is good. JIM

JIM This coming from the guy who designed the 2.5d dragon in the first place??? When my paper army gets big enough I will probably steal back my Army Transport case my friend swiped for his warmachine stuff, but until then I think I'm just gonna throw my big stuff into a shoebox I forgot I had for the time being. I realized I only really needed the segmented container for the smaller guys, and the one I have currently works great. However, if anyone comes up with any ideas I'd still be very glad to hear them!

Actually this might need a box designed to house one or two 2.5D models. Thinking generally here about 2.5D if a unit was designed to make up and house for transport that would be great. It need not be pretty as it would most likely slipped into a bag/box.
What do you think?

So something like a custom cardboard box for each 2.5d model? I'm having a hard time following exactly what you mean...

For each style of 2.5D. Just a holding box that you print off and build up with the right inserts for that style of critter.
Clearer?

Yeah ok I get it. It would be a pain to make a different box for each mini though. Maybe something based roughly on size, and maybe make it so the boxes can second as buildings or other terrain pieces.

I'm working on multy level Buildings to double as model transport. A Larger "Empty" Bulding model should do nicely for this purpose.

Look to the toy industries for ideas. They design "playsets" that double as cases sometimes. If are desigining a building for play/storage figure out a way to add some sor of lid to it

So, being new to paper miniatures, I'm wondering how people store their minis. Obviously, the ideal system is portable and allows you to see what you have at a glance. I was thinking of perhaps using nine-pocket trading card display sheets, but they are a bit large. I suppose I could put a few similar minis in each pocket.

That could work, as long as you're not mounting the figs permanently to the bases, as several of us do. With just flat figs, you could use trading card wallets, as you suggest, or possibly A4 plastic wallets. Alternatively you could try some kind of plastic tub; you could keep similar models (like those from the same army) in a single tub.

THey also make smaller 4 card per page pocket binders, though those usually are permamently set to the amount of pages are in there, but if you like the 9 pockets, and just need somethign portable, that might help.

One (perhaps inelegant) solution for 2.5D minis is to use a photo storage box. They come in various smallish sizes, have fitted lids, are generally made of sturdy cardboard materials, and they are light and inexpensive without being easily crushed. Easy to transport, too, and stackable. While the 2.5D minis can rattle around a bit in them from time to time, its not really a big deal as they don't really injure each other from coming into contact. Just don't turn the box upside-down and shake vigorously. Even then, it's not really a problem.

Could also consider boxes made for collectible cards. Its where I store my paper minis at the moment.

They are paper. If one gets mushed ... you build a new one. :-)
2.5d when done well looks almost as good as metals and plastics. And I love them. Not for every model...but the ones you've created Jim are just about right. (Mel has some great looking 2.5 and 3d Bugs and Marines too)
They are light you can toss a bunch of Stalkers or Mel's Xenos in a box and pull them out like a barrel of monkeys. I've done so and they've not been damaged yet.
I use the plastic containers I used for my metal and plastics. I can just put 4x more in each case and it weighs nothing at all. :-) I've thought about making some simple 110lb card-stock spacers (much like carboard spacers used in boxes for cupsglassware, etc)

I am working on a bunch of 2.5 dfigs that will fold flat or nest. My friends still treat them like they are fragile. I keep telling them they are only paper, but they don't feel it in their guts. Yes, I plan to post them all some day. No, they are not ready yet.
