The theme for this months HOARD is Just Deserts! This can be any sort of miniature on the above theme or feel free to submit miniatures off theme. If you submit a figure, they must include both front and rear art, have a proper trimming outline, and include instructions for multi-part models. Recolors and figure mods are encouraged, and even uncolored designs are welcome. No nudity or sexuality, but bloody gory and horrifying is encouraged. If you have questions about how to design your figures, like formats, resolution, and stuff like that, see the HOARD GUIDELINES in this forum category. Entries for the Hoard will be accepted until the last day of July, 2014. Bedouins, pyramids, sand, caravans, chariots, sand, palm trees, oases, more sand, Fremen, giant sandworms, radioactive giant scorpions, lost cities, destroyed civilizations, cowboys, polar bears and whales....all Just Deserts. I see a month of paper sand dunes ahead of me.

Hello, everyone Here's my first submission to the forum hoard. I hope I did everything right. They say of him: In the roar of an engine, he lost everything, and became a shell of a man. A burnt-out, desolate man. A man haunted by the demons of his past. A man who wandered out into the wasteland. And it was here, in this blighted place, that he learned to live again. I also added a couple of desert bases to mount the figure on. I hope you enjoy it

Work in progress for a near future desert trooper. Almost done. Black outlining is a bit messy, but most of that would get cut off anyway.
Grr...don't know why these are coming out blurry. Very crisp in Inkscape. Will have to play around with exporting.

Tried printing mine out today and they look pretty awful. Not nearly enough contrast. Amazing how much detail is lost when you shrink them down. Back to work...

Hi there! I was going to add some current Hoard's "desert" stuff - you know: explorers'n'expeditions, weird archeologists, some sand-burried temples, cursed sand mummies etc... or at least some 3D pyramids(?), then desert travellers/camel (remember: smoking=hazard etc.!!! ) caravans etc... Well according to Hoard's tittle... forgot all these features, pyramids, mummies or caravans (and even smoking? ... JUST... plain DESERT ALLOWED! So just a sheer SEA of SAND (then from time to time some occasional sandstorm perhaps, PLEASE? BTW: some old but still nice desert tune... La Bionda - Sandstorm...

Of course, that just screams out that we need an oasis scene printed on transparency

I've got a desert full of Joshua Trees across from my house. I just need to get my fanny and camera over there in the morning before the temperature hits lava hot.

@ aaron, mesper has WHOLE MAGAZINES full of this stuff, which he is gradually converting over to OneMonk format and scale to share and sell. His website is www.kartonowefigurki.pl - if you don't speak/read Polish, try it through Google Translate... BTW, you can find his marvellous mummy in this set: Horror Gore & Survival or the Aspects version

WackyAnne How come I didn't know about this site sooner mesper!! why didn't some one tell me?? WHY???!!! *shakes fists at the sky* all the wasted years! Cos it was supposed to be a secret... or I'ma modest... or... But seriously - I took a break from (pro/hardcopy) publishing so the site is more or less kinda "abandoned", still you can download some freebies: PERMES / KartonowaArmia DownloadsOR view some photos (user submitted photos) PERMES Kartonowa Armia - Photo GalleryPlus from some RL outdoor events (actually, due to some RL issues I was forced to miss some of my favourite events - like Battle of Grunwald and Siege of Malbork, sniff...) PERMES - Siege of Malbork ... PS. The one who got some problems how to handle crossbow that's... well, shame on me LOL;)

Final Image. It's been so long since I've made a paper model, I had to relearn a lot! Most important...what looks good on the screen is not always what looks good on paper.

Much better. Agreed! Those came out great +really like the colours! Then if I may suggest some small changes: I'd pay some more attention to details like shirt-forearm and perhaps (his) left palm - so either no fingers visible at all or "regular" 4 fingers:). Well IMHO I'd also consider adding some more sound/bold "internal" contour-lines - BUT in this case that's not really necessary (" de gustibus...") Anyway, that's my two cents, hope that helps a bit. Thanks for the advice Mesper. I'll keep that in mind for the next one. I was experimenting with using vector shapes with this one to be able to move them around to get different figures, but I only partially succeeded at that (I have a lot more Inkscape to learn). In the end I had to go back to my old standby, Photoshop, and finish these out.
