No I don't need a designated driver to get home, it's another Craig Cartmell Wordpress blog. fubarwargames.wordpress.com/They are solid and compact rules that get their points across quite well. Here's what the author has to say; The FUBAR Wargames blog is dedicated to publishing free, simple, brief and clear rules for wargames.
Many of the sets featured here are the products of a collaboration between Craig Cartmell and a group of stalwart and imaginative wargamers who are called collectively The Forge of War Development Group.
The group’s golden rule is credit where credit is due. Thus each person who contributes to a game is credited for that contribution in the ruleset.
Craig has been designing and publishing free sets of rules for over twenty years, and gaming for a lot longer than that. Recently he hit pay dirt co-authoring the In Her Majesty’s Name series of wargames rules for Osprey with his old friend Charles Murton. This led him to not working on FUBAR and other projects, something that will now change with the creation of this blog.
Craig Cartmell, is a little strange and likes to talk about himself in the third person.Currently he's looking for Battle Reports using the various FUBAR rules sets. The older I get the more appealing brief rules become.

Yep, I've been watching my older son pouring over all the Pathfinder books now that school is out. And I DM'd a 3.5 adventure when my younger son had a friend up to the cottage. There is really too much to remember in those games, and I've been using those rules (or their predecessor's) for more than 30 years!

These rules look to be really useful. I agree about short and simple rules squirmydad, the older I get the less inclined I am towards thumbing through great fat rulebooks in order to clarify gameplay.

FUBAR!

I stumbled on FUBAR various times, in my perpetual research of skirmish rules. While i apreciate so much the intention to KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid! ) and while basically i like the mechanics (sort of SoBH with slightly worse activations and slightly better combat) i think that the format is more detrimental than useful... what i mean is that in the rule sheet there's things mentioned but undefined (range of fire, line of sight) and "rule holes" you have to sort out yourself (Facing? Vehicle Facing and turning ratio? Can suppressed figures becom casualties?). Also, there's sentences that are too much "crammed" (more concepts in less words) for my poor english, while i can understand everything explained in short, less convoluted phrases. Keeping it all in a single side of a single page could be an interesting way to keep the FUBAR core simple, but the ultimate rule layout should not be tied on this.
