ok I'm going to loose all credibility (that's assuming I had some to start with LOL ) here and say.... I really liked the movie John Carter ...... ok ok I know , I know it was terrible but I really liked it! it was campy, stupid and porly acted but for what ever reason I saw it at the right moment when I was in the mood for something really stupid and , well just weird. I think I'm going to throw in on this one and make some of those green for armed tusked guys .... hate me if you want to but at least I can die with a clear conscience now LOL Don't feel ashamed Aaron because I liked it too
I agree about it being campy. stupid & etc, but somehow it worked.
Oscar-worthy? No, but it was entertaining

Popcorn-worthy. I have my own rating system. I loved their version of the white apes.

I have yet to see John Carter of Mars, but I'll try to get to it this week. I watched Big Trouble in Little China for the first time ever last week, thanks in large part to this thread (and well, beholder kin). So thank you, for finally getting me to see the joyful pulpiness that I always swore I'd get around to soon, but never did. In return, I suggest you try to track down Wolfhound, a Conan-inspired, Russian blockbuster. It was excellent, but it is hard to track it down on disc. Now I just wish I could find The Wizard of Mars...

Oscar-worthy? No, but it was entertaining I loved John Carter (of Mars!). The movie may had been a failure of marketing and a box office bomb, but it was Burroughs Barsoom as closely translated to the big screen as possible. A shame that tickets didn't sell and the sequels won't happen, but at least I got to see glorious Tars Tarkas, White Apes and Calots in live action. If only we had Banths in the movie too... (maybe they saved them for the sequel? Shame...)

I don't feel like such an outcast now LOL ! most of the people in my family are good God fearing sensible people who don't go in for that sort of fantasy nonsense ... though I did catch my son watching Dr. who on his own the other day .... I was so proud!

WIP: I haven't gotten around to doing any turban guys so I might go for some headswaps or something. I am thinking of skipping the machine gun guys, I will only get to them if things let up at work.

Is it just me, or are the 6-armed men the only people dressed at all? Burroughs' Mars is hot by day, cold by night, and none of the people there wear any clothing at all, except jewellery and harnesses that effectively act as both belts and pockets would on Earth, holding essential items, weapons, etc. The only time clothing is worn is when anyone travels to the polar regions. Barsoom is (so far as I recall) never physically reached by the main earthly protagonist who goes there, John Carter (he gets there by a form of astral projection instead), so it's possible it's all a dream, which may partly account for some aspects of the customs there - and can also be invoked by readers when some of the uncomfortable deus ex machina "solutions" appear! If you're not familiar with Barsoom in its original novel form, there's a good Wikipedia page on it, with a lot of information and useful links. Be aware that not all the external websites would pass the One Monk "no nudity" rule, however

Here is a set of a few of the more memorable henchfellows from "Big Trouble in Little China." I might have time to do another draft this week, any suggestions?

They're possibly a little too uniformly dull and muddy in colouring overall to print out well on most inkjets especially. Past experience suggests they could look more like a group of shadows than humans as minis.

I might have time to do another draft this week, any suggestions? they look good like 1970's James Bond thugs But I agree their colors needs to be brighter almost gaudy to make them work at scale. also I have found that foreshortening doesn't really work well in 2d models some how it just makes them look awkward I have tried using it now several times and though I'm really good at drawing with foreshortening it just never looks right and makes the model feel awkward. that's just my opinion of-coarse but then you asked for it LOL

Here is a new version of the henchmen with some lighter colors. I will try to make a single sheet with all the Big trouble in Little China characters and get a dropbox link up in the next day or so.

Indeed, much improved colour schemes.
The yellow belts and headbands seem duller on the three "henchmen" figure backs than the fronts though. And the lower end of the middle henchman's fighting staff looks as if it has a ferrule to it in the back view which isn't apparent on the front. Hopefully just minor tweaks needed.

Gah, I see that I messed up the tabs on my henchmen (They also appear to be a little big. Like, 4-armed temple guardian big, oops). I will try to fix that when I get all the "Big Trouble In Little China" guys on one sheet. Nice horde everyone!
