Over the years I have done many kit-bashes, mostly based around Finger and Toe Models. Most of my moments of madness have already appeared on the Finger and Toe Forum but I would like to share them with the wider community. As always, the source of all parts used will be detailed in the description of the model.

The first model, shown above, is the Barber Shop in Rio Bonito. The main body of the building is the Merchant's Bank in Lancaster, CA from Glenn's Lincoln;NM/Wild West range. I Photoshopped the window and hid the fixing point for the porch behind a sign (also PS, using lettering from Microtactix Twilight Street and a wood texture from Glenn's saloon). The bath house lean-to is from the back of Glenn's Palmenthal Saloon and the roof sections from Adobeville. Spaghetti Western fans may recognise the name of the barber. Bob Quintle was the pseudonym of Roberto Cinquintero, Editor on A Fistful Of Dollars.

My undertakers. This model is basically the Western Hotel by Finger and Toe models. The side extension, (which usually supports the side balcony) has been attached backwards as a prep room. The workshop on the back is from the Palmenthal Saloon. The redesigned roof uses the kit-bash parts provided. As the roof tiles already matched, it was a simple matter to cut a roof section from the saloon to turn the balcony into a tiled porch and invert the ridge tiles to form guttering (hiding the join in the roof).

Looks good, - adding the chimney definitely improves the building's appearance.

A comparison of the Hotel and Undertakers

Another comparison shot. The building on the left is the Lincoln General Store, pretty much from the kit. Mackie Mercantile is the same building, re-textured in Photoshop by sampling from the Hotel. The canopy supports also came from the hotel. The Barber Shop I've already talked about. The building at the right is a Shotgun House with a remodeled facade. I'm looking for a Newspaper Office sign for that one. The other signs are from the Palmenthal Saloon.

Thank You. Another model for you appraisal. Ana Verde Lost Mine. The main changes to this model are the drive belt cut from a manila envelope and winch rope from a ball of wool.

Although I really like the look of the photographer's sign on the shotgun house, I think of these early photographers as artists. Artists tend to live and work in less typical buildings. If both buildings were available in the town, I think the artist would pick the more unusual NOLA building. Whereas the recorder would pick a more utilitarian building like the shotgun house.
Just my opinion...

Fair point, especially as the doctor and ladies outfitter will be NOLA houses.

A couple of views of the "Cattleman's Bank" which provided the inspiration (and the chimney)for the earliest kit-bashes in Rio Bonito. The fireplace is Photoshopped, using Glenn's artwork and the sign has a back cut from a duplicate porch.
