With the start of the New Year comes a list of new projects. First in line is a model that has been waiting to be done. The Coliseum. The model is in its initial concept design, however the dimensions will have a width of 2'-8" and a length of over 3'-10". Yeah, you read it right, this model will be huge! The arena battleground is 16" wide and will come with basic groundwork, but will also be customizable to have virtually any ground texture or arena setup in your library. How so?
A model of this size will be broken up in both straight and rounded segments with options of the outside of the coliseum having either simple 2D textures or 3D parts for those wanting the extra detail. Because of this concept you will be able to build any size Coliseum you want, and around any ground textures (or maps) you want. To add to the attraction, each segment will also be designed as a fold-flat system for easier storage. Finally, the set will include an Official's Podium that will be modular, so you can place it anywhere you want. Other props may be pending or reserved as a later expansion.
On to the concept images (subject to change during test building) -
UPDATE: The Coliseum is coming along really well. I wanted to share a few textures to give you an idea of the look and feel. The model will come with several multi-layered PDFs to give you plenty of options to choose from, whether you want to have the simple 2D wall or build the full 3D version. The podium and ground tiles will also have a few options to choose from. In addition, if you don't want to build the full model, there's an option to have the side walls fully textured to suit your gaming needs. Finally, this set will include the highly desired set of cut files.
UPDATE 2: While the texturing process is well underway, here are some images of product testing. You can see the differences between the 2D and 3D back walls as well as miniature placement to give you an idea on how large each segment really is. I've also included an image of the podium, a modular piece that can be placed anywhere inside the Coliseum. The roof is detachable for game play purposes. Images are compliments of Randy Farmer, co-designer and test builder.

wyvern: I've found Photos loading the first image slowly every time I've switched on the computer in recent times. It's been OK after that, but seems like it can't quite remember how to do it just after it's been woken up...

surfduke: Do you want a preview pdf of the Jupiter 2 here? If so how do I post it.

Vermin King: That would explain why 'Photos' loaded slower this weekend. It was 'improved'

wyvern: It wasn't some fresh Windows "improvement" then... I noticed the icon for the MS image viewer, "Photos", changed a few days back as well. Doesn't seem to have changed the app, as far as I can tell. Yet.

lightning: Glad that only a restart was involved. I wouldn't have the energy to much more today :-)

Vermin King: I had a scare and a half. Went to open a pdf for the first time today and nothing happened. Checked All Programs and saw that Reader updated on 05/23. Restarting fixed it. Whew

cowboyleland: I always thought Tirick was a little mad.

Vermin King: Really worn out tonight, so when I'm like that I just look for things I used to have, but don't any more. I got the Zippy models and am rebuilding my Tirick/TCF Gaming folder. How the heck would anyone build his 1/1000 Battletech mechs without enlarging

Toman: yea I have been. pretty cool project. I've done a few scratch builds like that but not as large. cutting individual stones or carving stones in foam sucks.

Vermin King: Anybody else following Mauther's home-made Playmobile castle build? Looks really good so far

cowboyleland: Good point. Maybe make the wing feathers seperately so that the wind could get through them?

squirmydad: We had two operators for the hawk though, one to carry the weight and the other to flap the wings.

squirmydad: Probably silk and dowels. I assisted in the construction of a giant hawk puppet for an indoor show, probably about the same size as that pegasus.

Vermin King: It's got to be really light. The article dealt with parade puppets. I don't think I'd want to be trying to control that in a stiff wind

lightning: that's a nice pegasus!
May 13, 2020 4:10:32 GMT -9
shep: Will it fly, if you move the wings fast enough?
