That's great news. :-) Websites don't have to cost much money- there are even free ones out there. Mine cost me around £50 a year for three domains with unlimited subdomains, and under a tenner each for domain names (except .com that are a bit more). GoDaddy for example will do you a plan for under a fiver a month including domain name. My New Elysium one is a free (suitably modified) Joomla CMS, free template etc. A simple WordPress one would do just as well to get you started though. I know money is tight, but if you can afford those few bucks it really will be worth your while.
In the meantime, you could always just start with a Facebook page for it maybe?
Logo is looking sweet too.

room101 , I'll look into it, I might just start with the facebook page... money is extremely tight given that I have been without a job since last October..... Still looking though. It's amazing that my 70 year old, retired mother could get a part time job at a garden center within 2 weeks, and I can't even get a reply ( call or email) to 99% of the job applications I send out, and I've been doing 5-7 per week... for pretty much any kind of work at this point.

I know what you mean buddy, I am self employed but would be better off on benefits because I've got so little work right now. I've actually earned less than £100 a month this year- luckily I'm blessed with remarkable friends and family so don't have to struggle to eat and put a roof over my head, but there's zero slack. Website design is a huge part of my business though, so realistically I have to have that webspace and it's a justifiable expense.
I have applied for jobs I could do in my sleep and not even gotten an interview either. From those that do reply, there's too many 'you're over qualified', 'we couldn't afford to pay what we think you're worth', 'we know if we gave you this job you'd still be applying for others and we don't want to have to readvertise all over in two months time'...
All I can say really is stick in there. I know it's a huge confidence sapper, and a real kick in the nads sometimes, but you know you're better, and something must turn up. If this thread shows nothing else, it shows how meticulous you are. Fingers crossed for you fella.

So between job searching/applications, helping my parents get their actual real pier put in before we got 3-5 inches of rain this weekend, and assisting 4 out of 7 family members that came down with a stomach bug this past week Sometimes "unemployed" is a serious misnomer.

Working on one final design and page layout for some simple railings, everything else has Photoshop layouts ready for conversion to PDF's! Maybe a day or so of doing that conversion work and reducing file sizes in Acrobat Professional, then a quick Instruction booklet with advice on how to approach designing/building the pieces and it is looking like I might be ready to submit this for release by the weekend!

room101, that's sort of where the "Tinkering" Tom comes from. But I've realized at this point that I have pretty much everything that I can think of at this point, and I can always release expansions or even updates to the original files if i catch something in the future that needs to be fixed or "tweaked"... So it is time to just get this out there and see what the response to it is.

Well, it'll be a week or three before I'll be able to contribute at the earliest, but certainly count me in. I'm clearing the decks as we speak. If you'll pardon the pun.

All 54 PDF files compiled together! Finally! 54 PDF's, 28-38 layers per PDF, 711 MB of Wooden Pier goodness coming to you very soon now... Going to take a quick break, work on assembling some parts from the set as well as some other buildings to help illustrate the short instruction book to include with the set Here is a screen capture of the folder with the PDF's from my laptop, just in case you'd like an idea of what will all be included... ( looking at this I might need to rename some of the files for easier identification..)

Whoa. A warning to all budding designers out there - this level of work is NOT required for making a successful paper terrain kit.
That said - my wallet is out and ready! I'm sure this is going to be a great value.

I'm sure this is going to be a great value. I second that! blame this on my obsession with providing options and completeness and having WAY more free time to work on this than I originally anticipated. Looking back on it I could have ( and probably should have) released this in smaller chunks... Started with just the pier decks and pilings, and then added the 3D beam type ramp supports as an expansion, followed by the fold flats ramps supports, then the stairs and ladders, but it s all together now....

Watching your design process has been great, especially for budding designers. I have to admit that had I started with such an enormous project, I'd be five years in an insitution with group therapy and heavy meds by now. Good job!

glennwilliams, I now realize WHY a set like this wasn't available when i went looking for one, I didn't quite realize how enormous it would come to be! Blame it on my pig-headedness and refusing to give up on any project i start. Also from the amount of support and suggestions and advice and encouragement I've received from people here made me want to do the best job on it I could.

View AttachmentTinkering Tom Wooden Piers setCongratulations on a much needed release to the market place (this kit was one of the first I was looking for when I started making paper terrain...) If I may share one more piece of advice: Your price is significantly more what some folks might be expecting - I think I know why, but your ad copy doesn't tell us why. 54 pages you said? That should be the lead item (since your per-page price is probably better than most other kits.) Also, to get traction, consider a short-term (24 hour) discount code, as modeled here by many designers... Congratulations again!

oldschooldm, thanks for the congratulations and the advice. When I'm back to my laptop I'll look at updating my ad copy and setting up a discount as well.

I needed a ladder, and trying to go through my files by memory didn't work, so did a search on the forum, and realized these would be perfect. Thank you
