So my original designs looked like this, where the top edge of the ladder comes just to the top edge of the deck section it goes against: I then realized that most ladders extend above the horizontal surface to make it easier to step on and off the ladder, but to do that requires making the pier/deck overlay a separate piece like this: So I'm wondering if people would prefer the multi piece ladder over the single piece one.. I am currently planning on doing the plank sided and pole sided versions in both straight and angled sides, plus the simpler 2 sided folded ones as seen in my original post. this just concerns if people would prefer the deck overlay attached to the top or as a separate piece.

I'd be happy with either. The higher looks more authentic in situ, the single piece is far more practical as a modeller.
