Last Thursday through Saturday was the 99th Annual Cole Camp Fair. Besides showing off produce, horticulture, and home economics, they have the Fair Parade. Depending on the night, they will have either antique car parade, agriculture equipment, etc. But each night they have marching bands, political candidates, charity entries and parade floats. The grand prize winner this year was done by the high school senior class. I think the kids (and/or their parents) did a great job. Between laying it all out, making the tissue flowers and assembling, I wonder how much time was involved. Gosh, Glenn, one of these times you are going to have to come back for the fair

Only in Missouri do you see towns named after other States and Nations...

Well, maybe 'mostly Missouri'. Other states have their share, too. We just see it more often on highway signs as we travel

Near where I grew up in Ontario we have a "Toledo" as well as "Perth," "Lanark" and lots of other British and Irish place names, not to mention London, Ontario; home to the famous okumarts

Well, I'm not exactly in London (I'm about an hour east of there), but my city is named after Waterloo in Belgium (location of Napoleon's defeat).

So we're practically neighbors! My favorite line in Google directions is, "67 hours, 64 hours without traffic."

I live the other side of Stratford Ontario from Okum (I'm guessing I'm about an hour drive from Mr. Okum) Stratford is named after Shakespeare's home town=....and is itself home to a big Shakespeare festival every summer. As a matter of fact, I'm going to see As You Like It on Sunday.
(I grew up in London Ontario, BTW...and for a long time I worked in a small town called Clinton, Ontario...)
So, small world. At least at 100 km/hr it is...

So, did growing up in London and living near Stratford have anything to do with your interest in Theater?

Living near Stratford definitely did. The cool thing is that locals get all kinds of perks at the Festival....especially if you're into that sort of thing. I haven't paid anything close to full price for a ticket in years.

You know, that Shakespeare head I did for his birthday could be blown up. I bet you guys could rig it up to be used as a mask.
When is the festival?

It's not exactly a "festival". More like the season run of one really big theatre company. They do a handful of Shakespeare plays, a few "related" plays, one or two big musicals, and a few smaller artsy plays over the whole summer. From May until October actually. They own 3 theaters (one seats over 3,000) and have a company of about 100 actors....and the biggest, coolest warehouse of costumes on the planet. Google "Stratford Festival"....they're pretty big. My wife is the costume head for a smaller professional theater company in a nearby town (run by the guy who use to be Stratford's dance/fight captain), but she knows all the costume folks in Stratford, and often has run of their costume warehouse to get rentals. I find any excuse to come along (to "help carry stuff") when she goes....it's like the best toy store on the planet. I gush.... So Cowboyland....You're from down the St. Lawrence way are you...? A few hours down the 401...? Cool.

I am actually in Ottawa these days but I grew up in Smiths Falls (half way to Kingston if you don't want to google it.) My stage fight business partner spent many years in Stratford working with Paddy Crean. That is a fun name to look up on wikipedia.
