The theme for this months HOARD is Reign of Yule! This can be any sort of miniature figure or model on the above theme or feel free to submit miniatures off theme. If you submit a figure, they must include both front and rear art, have a proper trimming outline, and include instructions for multi-part models. Recolors and figure mods are encouraged, and even uncolored designs are welcome. No nudity or sexuality, but bloody gory and horrifying is encouraged. If you have questions about how to design your entries, like formats, resolution, and stuff like that, see the HOARD GUIDELINES in this forum category. Entries for the Hoard will be accepted until the last day of November, 2015. It's Christmas Horde time again! Strap the machine-guns to the reindeer, awaken the Evergreen elementals, and take back Christmas once and for all! What, that's not how you celebrate the time of giving and thanks? Well all entries are welcome at my table.

I'm working on some Christmas Present Mimics... and I was thinking of doing up a Christmas Treant...

I'm still plugging along on old projects. One of them is my daughter's creation; She noticed my obsession interest in the War of The Worlds and asked about the story. She said it sounded interesting, but what did the aliens look like? So this is her interpretation of the Cephalid menace with a Christmas version tacked on. DOWNLOAD

Where's everyone's Holiday spirit? Well, as is often the case, the Kringle Bunker was a bit above my skill level. Maybe next year. So, I threw together the Claus Haus Just a simple little house, but the kids I've shown it to love it.

I'm gonna hafta scrap my Christmas Present Mimic... for one I can't get it into a design I like, and for two I was flipping through the past hordes and found someone already did one. Now I am sad

Hm... I can try to put together a wintery-themed freebie small house. That, and I can't imagine that there are enough present-themed mimics around. I'm not all that good with art, but I might be able to pull something off...

I am going to get the medieval tank off my bucket list as a present to myself. I was about to say that the treads mean it can travel over snow, but you can see grass under the wheels and if I try and change that it will be on the shelf for probably another year. It has already been a WIP for four!

Having fun trying to make a present mimic. It's probably gonna be too tiny to be practical, but... Test printing now to assemble tonight.

Despite proof here that my fat old fingers can assemble such a thing, I hardly found it "fun"... Still, I designed it in sketchup, laid it out in GIMP and assembled it in front of my 11-year-old without cursing ONCE! The lil' guy measures .25"x.25"x.5", since that seemed like a good scale for a present. The tongue squishes up inside. I printed it on cheap copy paper to make my life easier, but I made the tongue 2x thickness in order to make it sturdy enough to hold in place. I didn't even bother to glue it into the box. He's got teeth and everything! I will see about maybe scaling him up a bit to have him in small, medium and large sizes, and in a variety of colors. I will also see about (for the folks who really like to punish themselves) a little bow on top. Maybe.

Ok. Here's a page of "Christmas Mimics" or, as my wife described them, "a tongue in a box". DOWNLOADThe little ones are fiddly, but I made two of em, so they CAN be built! Even easier if I had tweezers handy to glue the tabs together. I included a cutting guide and cutfiles, though I left reg marks off of the png files since I figured squirmydad would add them using his standard marks. So, we should tweak the cutfiles included when that happens. (I'm freely offering help in making cutfiles for other submissions, so I can tweak em' then, too).

I posted a picture Oct. 30 in the "Odd Bodkins" thread. The inspiration was looking at a picture of a polybolos reconstruction in a museum. The chain drive reminded me of tank tracks. Then I imagined that some "barbarians" (probably Gauls) fortified themselves in the middle of a swamp. The Romans needed to get some siege equipment close but the ground was too soft. One of their engineers (Callidus Canis Latrans)remembered the chain drive he had seen on the polybolos that was captured in Syracuse and the rest is (alternate) history.

Ring in the new year with Reign of Yule, Forum Hoard #135! There's a story in this picture, not sure what it is, but to me it looks like Christmas Chaos. Thanks to all the designers! link

That's odd. I had that on another old hoard recently, but I was able to unzip this one fine using 7-Zip

Is anyone else having trouble downloading this one? When I try to unzip the file it is coming up as "invalid"...... Yes. This is a frequent problem with the larger Hoard downloads I've found. Sometimes if you go back at a different time, it downloads just fine, but other times not. It seems to be a file size issue, as I could download and open "The End" Hoard today immediately after the "file is corrupted and cannot be opened" version of Hoard #135 failed to unzip. If you watch the download progress indicator, you can sometimes catch the problem happening about 3/4 through the download, when the download speed increases from the usual rate to "finished" in far too short a time. Presumably some kind of glitch with the One Monk site software, I'd guess, as we're presumably not all using identical PCs, browsers and unzip programs.
