Vermin King: Depending on how much time and effort you're able to devote to this, drawings might be more useful - for example, those of J Romilly Allen's " Early Christian symbolism in Great Britain and Ireland" from 1885. Or you might try some of the "shorter" high crosses, as they image rather more "correctly" flat. You might even think of some of the reproduction pendant/model versions as well - examples of photos, drawings, "short" cross photos and pendants, all on one webpage here, for instance.

I might have to try that. I think that this one will look good on the table, but it sure took a lot of playing with it in Gimp

Gonna try and finish Old Finn McCool here An interesting technique. I wonder how you have a way to design figures.

Gonna try and finish Old Finn McCool here An interesting technique. I wonder how you have a way to design figures. I drew the top image initially, then scanned it and made the outline in gimp and added the base. then I printed it out and drew the reverse image. I probably could have done it with my light box but I'm trying to be less of a Luddite and use technology more now that I have a computer. Lol

I hope to have the other two barrow mounds 'fixed' this weekend. When designers give you permission to use their templates as a base for design, you kinda feel compelled to make it work. Also intend to get to work on the Gallarus Oratory again.
One thing that sort of shocked me is the lack of Blarney Castle models out there. I mean at this point, only the keep and a few walls are standing, but it doesn't look that bad from a design standpoint, but then again, I am good at getting in over my head. Just a thought...

Dave's House of Barrows is in full operation. Too many projects, and I still haven't gotten to wagons, the Gallarus Oratory, more crosses, three parrots/macaws, a ship bow, plus a couple projects that have been bubbling around for a while.
So I decided to finish up the barrows. I enlarged the Tektonten barrow and worked on the textures, modified the template for Bruno's Minion Mound and re-textured it, and finished re-texturing the Tinkering Tom/Tektonten barrow. I should have these built tonight unless real life steps in again, as these are all easy builds. Hope to have photos tonight. Final tweaks tomorrow, then wagons.

And we have barrow mounds! First one is a mod of Bruno's Minion head. I had to mess with heights of the different levels to get a proper form. Second is Tektonten's Shield Pattern enlarged and retextured Third is a mod by Tinkering Tom on Tektonten's shield, making it taller And, of course, if you get in a hurry, accidents happen. I didn't clear coat it, so the cat barfed on it. Tried to disguise the stain as best I could. So, here are the two based on Tektonten's shield template The Minionth Mound is the easiest to construct. The pure Tektontenic Mound would be my favorite, if printed on 11X17 and had internal support. The Bernearth Mound is the one that I think would be the most useful to gamers, especially if used in a group of the various sized mounds.

They look good. I am glad I don't have a cat.

I want to go ahead and post the first of the mounds. I call this the Minionth Mound (as opposed to the Knowth Mounds that started this). This is Bruno's modified Minion model. For those who haven't built any of Bruno's aircraft, he uses a unique method of tabs to maintain 'roundness'. In the tab strips, use scissors to make a whole lot of cuts yielding a whole lot of tabs. Once you've done it the first time and see how well it works, you will like this construction method. Hopefully this photo will help explain.

This is great, I have a very specific mod I want to do with this that I will share with everyone. It has to do with the D&D 5e Out of the Abyss campaign running right now...
Thanks!

Bruno decided to do his own version as a gift to the forum. A bit larger than the version I already posted, and a smoother shape. And a blank template will get posted after I convert it from .doc format. I will also put his copywrite info and logo on these. Thanks, Bruno

I wonder if Eric would do a mod for this? Not part of the Hoard, but Grendelsmother64 did a round tower for MMiP once.

My son needed a hoard of these so I thought I would share them with the hoard. It is a 20mm base if the scale has gone wonky.
I just realised that the page where I found the snake symbol for the sheild has a copyright on it. Best not to put this in the hoard. I will repost when I find a new symbol.
Sorry gang!

With this being a short month, I'm going to have to buckle down. There's always a little distortion in photography, so trying to get the stonework 'linear' has been an issue on the Oratory. Hitting a roadblock always bounces me into rabbit trail mode. I need to do work on Bruno's mound still, too. I did rediscover Grendelsmother64's Irish Round Tower, which made for a really quick build in a related theme. And I used Tom's ladder for access.
So, time to get back to work, even though I have been working on this carriage for April's Out and About Hoard, with a steampunk version for July. I've been working out the geometry to do a steampunk building based on the old New York Life building in Kansas City, though not as tall or deep. I've got to get my shipwreck together for March, too. I think I'll post the March Hoard announcement on Sunday.
So, back to work, but this is looking to be a great hoard

Absolutely fantastic! Bless you and yours to a thousand generations Okay, since I posted Bruno Vanhecke's Mound which he did as a gift to the forum, I needed to go through and actually build it. The original post had glue strips instead of tabs, so I used his normal version of tabs on a final update. Just make a bunch of slits in the long tabs. This is how he does his aircraft models and it works well (unless you are using a cutter, I guess) It actually looks really good, I think. That's Shawn's Round Tower with Tom's ladder for access in the background. After I showed him what I did with his Minion Head, he said he'd like to take a crack at one, and two hours later, he sent me this. And he does this with geometric programs and Corel. Amazing.
