madmanmike - he looks pretty cool. I'm in nit-picking mode, so forgive me... Some shadow under the chest might make it look more a part of the figure. Same with the sword. The pistol kind of gets lost... if he aimed his arm a bit to the right (our right, his left), you'd be able to tell it apart from the strap across his chest and you'd be able to make out the shape of the pistol more. Just some things that came to mind, in case you want to make tweaks.

I am calling this a WIP because I have not done a test build yet. It is based on some of the geometry of the shark in Vermin King 's thread (that squirmydad declared his love for) modded in to a simpler water line model, recoloured and scaled down. I can't read Japanese so I don't know if the original work is copyrighted but I think I have change it enough so as not to be an issue.

If you notice the forecastle deck has pulled away slightly from the main build. That is from warpage in gluing the inner and outer forecastle parts together. Restickable glue by nature doesn't adhere well enough to hold the piece flat. I mention this because the front of the cabin looks wonky, but it isn't.

A little shaky, but a fun build. Where did you get the stones from in your pictures?

Those are Jesse's, papercruiser.com/free-paper-models/Those are some I printed out at two pages per page. Don't know why I never did any full scale, but these work for a lot of things

Time is drawing short on this month. I might come back and finish the stern down the road, but I don't think it will be finished for this Hoard...

The month went a bit sideways on me so the Taiwanese raft will have to go in the "Out and About" Hoard for April. In the meantime I present; Gingerbeard! DOWNLOAD

Had to break my own rule about modeling during the work day (I'm self-employed, but still...) but I test built this guy and made a few small changes (i.e. larger tabs). I feel my early white model may have built better because it was not on card, but it still works in card, just a bit more fiddly (which the larger tabs might help.) Cheers

Just a few hours left. Remember, you can always submit to a later Hoard. Might make for interesting promo pics, but what the hey

Thanks everybody! Sorry February hasn't been released yet. I just wrapped up taxes for 2015, so I think my evenings will be less stress-filled. I have one more mound to build (cutfiles are pretty much done, but I ran into a snag where my cutter decided to stop cutting through the photo paper - I think the problem has resolved itself...) and then photos to shoot, and it'll be done. Thankfully, this is a relatively small hoard. As such, if there's something *almost* finished and you can get it to me before I get PDFs built, I'll be happy to include it.

February bits have been handed off! March bits are well underway! I knew it was ambitious to try to finish things in a day (or even a weekend) but I've got the cutfiles done and the wrecked ship went together very nicely. The textures are really lovely! I will edge the figures at work tomorrow, and hopefully pictures will be taken by Wednesday.

At some point, I intend to come back to the aft portion of the shipwreck. Hopefully, I will know more about design and texture when I come back to it.
Thank you for all the work you have put into this, sir.

Mproteau has finished the March Hoard, "Landlubbers Need Not Apply!" Now you too can battle over a shipwreck with Gingerbeard and his mutinous crew! Thanks again to Vermin King and Mproteau for managing the Cardboard Warriors Forum Hoards! link

At some point, I intend to come back to the aft portion of the shipwreck. Hopefully, I will know more about design and texture when I come back to it. There are those TBA Hoards at the end of the year, perhaps one of them could be a "Lost" hoard for unfinished projects. Or maybe a "Lost & the Darned - Demons in Wool" Horde, but that would have nothing to do with a shipwreck. Wait! I got it; "Castaways"- a horde full of found items on beaches and islands, like the adventures of Robinson Crusoe or Tom Hanks.

My son was really taken by the shipwreck. No pressure, but he wants the whole ship, intact!

At another forum, a semi-retired researcher at a Dutch maritime museum has taken up paper models to do his models, instead of wood. There are plusses and minuses. He is more easily able to hit thicknesses this way and he has found that after learning some nuances of the medium, he can create more life-like ships in much less time. His current build is of a Dutch Fluit. I'm thinking of leaning that direction for the aft section. His fluit is a whaler, and the rail at the back is similar to the rail on the forecastle wreck that I did, with an unusual shape as it approaches the waterline. These ships were the primary merchants and whalers used for almost 100 years. If I do a full waterline ship later on, it will probably be a carrack. Carracks would be of a size where the crew size vs the party size would be fairly close. Small enough to do scouting, fast enough to outrun pirates or the law, yet still able to haul a fairly good amount. Not nearly as much as a fluit, but the lines of the fluit would be much beyond my abilities on a waterline model.

Just noticed what is happening in the promo shot. That pirate should put down the treasure chest and protect his jewels!

As I have said elsewhere, most of my research on ships is either on Dutch, Spanish or Mediterranean ships. Well, Ninjatoes Blog today had a link to the Mary Rose website, www.maryrose.org/. Holy Smokes that is interesting. History, ship construction and re-fitting, Tudor Life in general. And, of course, they have some beginner-ish models, www.maryrose.org/category/mondaymakes-2/One article on the site goes back to a subject that has come up a few times. People's height during Medieval days, www.maryrose.org/tudor-trivia-how-tall-were-the-crew/. With hundreds of skeletons, they ought to know
