Instead of continuing the work in progress thread into an endless story I decided to split here and start a new one with my next steps for the old and new asian models. Starting to rebuild the Pagoda Tower as the original build did not survive our last move. There is an extension I want to do, so I need to have it back again. Also when I looked at the Samurai Castle files I had no clue how to build it anymore So here I am refreshing my memory! While I left it to dry the sun was setting and it was looking so beautiful, so ...

Saturday morning progress ... no nice sunlight. Dull grey winter morning. Sad flashlight shot Need to work on stabilizing the roof edges. It's a speedbuild. So please forgive imperfections The underside of the roofs. Didn't edge the inside so that could look better.

I've always considered this a beautiful model (that I probably wouldn't have room for), but this is the first build I have seen. I've downloaded several sets of instructions in the past. Are you doing a different build order?

Build order? What order? I just wake up in this room and can't remember anything. Who am I? ... oh wait, that's a different game I don't know what you mean with build order. I am just trying to build it again and have to admit I had to take a peek in the instructions file. I can't remember how I built it back then. So we need to make a 15mm version for you?

No, you don't need to do that. If it's like the castle, few of the parts would be 'too fiddly' if printed at four pages per page, which would put it pretty close to 15mm

that's right, for 15mm it would require a redesign as the small parts would not work at that scale. but the size is an issue, so i am thinking maybe a 15mm line could be interesting for another group. anyway, bad weather day today ... so a good day for paper modelling. Next the ornaments ...

came so far today ... might need to put the whole thing on a ground board to keep the lower edges from warping.

Just add bleached whitewashed versions of the walls and blackish or reddish (or both) tile options for the wall tops and it'd be a great little set.

Pagoda Tower base is finished. Took me a little longer but my back is killing me. Does not like me sitting too much at the computer ... ... so next I'll have a look at the walls and want to do the same for the main building.

My back pain problem has decided to haunt me this week, so all is slower until I get my body back to normal again. Working on the main temple building. The ground area is 12x10in. If I ever rework this new that would be interesting to do flat fold...

Hopefully the back problem won't persist. Take care, and don't let the cat sit on your shoulders while you work

I really like how the flooring creates the functionality of a grid without actually being one, plus you can never go wrong with interiors and fold flat. First let the body heal, then the mind can resume its madness.

@all: thanks for all the kind wishes. Lots of rest in between building steps and taking long walks to get moving my body. Wish it was summer though and not winter :-) ignatious: I always try to incorporate the grid if its possible. With stonework it usually is easier. oldschooldm: I really do hope you will find an excuse :-) Almost finished the Main Hall building ... and running out of space to make pictures!

Thanks! I just love the proportions and shape of the traditional japanese architecture. I have never been there but I would definitely be interested in spending some time in Japan and visit all the temples and castles there :-) Added the ornaments today. Doesn't it look so much better with them?

I hate to be like that so late in the project, but shouldn't the roofs of the pagoda tower become smaller with each storey?

I hate to be like that so late in the project, but shouldn't the roofs of the pagoda tower become smaller with each storey? They actually are. You can see it better a couple of pics up the thread. BTW if you are worried about late, you are about 10 years late That's when I made the Asian Temple set. I am just rebuilding it to revive the OBS page and make the new foundation stairs which always bothered me as the buildings look so much better with them.

Ahh, okay, I can see it now, but the size reduction is so minimal, it's hard to spot... I thought the size differences of such pagoda roofs would be much more visible... *shrugs* 10 years late? Okay! I never said anything... Is there a link where I can get your original project or did you take it down till the new version is finished and uploaded?

I am not sure how perfectly correct it is. I just eyeballed it from images. When I made it I also thought that the reduction would be more but when I looked at the photos from the original it seems not as much reduced. I think I even found some blueprints that convinced me to go this way. The Asian Temple is available at DrivethroughRPG but I will make a price reduction soon once all is redone. Right now you see a lot of broken links :-)

Got the geometry adapted for the main hall building. Next step is the adaptation of the texturing. The revival of the Asian Temple is almost complete!
