Here's a few pics of Jim's elves that I'm doing up as a 15mm mass combat army for A Fistfull of Miniatures. I apologize for my poor photography. I was tired from working all night, but I think you'll get the gist anyway. First up, two stands of swordsmen: The same two stands side-by-side: And the swordsmen accompanied by a stand of spearmen and a stand of archers: The bases are 40x20mm pieces of matte board with a battlefield texture overlay. The minis themselves were surprisingly easy to work with at this scale, though the square figure bases are a bit fiddly. Still, I can't wait for the new sets!

Those look great! Would you mind putting up a comparison pic showing one the 30mm elves, please? I was thinking of trying to make some of the elves in 15mm last night as I was making some of the 30s. It would be great to see how they scale. Also, what type of paper did you use for the 15s? The usual 110 cardstock, or photo matte paper, or something else? I was thinking if I scaled down I'd need to use lighter paper. Thanks for posting,
Luckyjoe

There are two things that make Jim's figures great for doing in 15mm. The first is that it's very difficult to sculpt 15mm figures for metal and keep the proportions right. The tendency is always there for the head to be disproportionately large. The second is that when I paint 15s, I paint for the effect of the stand, not the effect of the individual figure. You'd have to be a master painter to get the same effect with metal 15s as you can get by scaling Jim's figures.
Have fun! Steve

This looks fantastic! I almost want to start trimming them out now at that scale but I know I have too many Sketelons at normal scale to start now....
well at least for a time.

The paper I used is the photo matte paper that a lot of us here on the forum are using. It's 45 lb bond, but at 15mm the figures are still plenty rugged.

Here's a standard 30mm Elven Swordsman with his half-size buddies and three stands of archers. I must admit, the more stands I build, the more I want to build. They look great ranked up!

Man, I am loving the way those came out. There is no way I could paint something so small to look nearly as good as these. That's one of the things I love about Jim's minis. They look great and even though I'm pretty slow at cutting them out, they still get finished a lot faster than if I tried painting plastics or metals. Thanks, as soon as I get my photo paper I'm going to try this. You just scaled them to 50%, is that right? Luckyjoe

I think the way to do it is to import the PDF into the paint program of your choice (in my case, Paint Shop Pro), bump the resolution up to 300DPI, then scale to 50%. I'm not sure though Is this correct? onemonkeybeau

Awesome! That 30mm mini at the back looks like a Titan! Someone needs to recolor a 30mm elf in bronze colors. How big are the stands? Are those 40mmx20mm rectangles? Very good work. Eric This guy is what I'm thinking of;

However, for the next batch I'm going to use Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 and do exactly what you're suggesting, perhaps cutting and pasting so I can get a sheet crammed full of minis.

Just one caveat with these elves, guys: the spearmen can be tricky. Leave a good amount of the black outline around the spear shaft or it won't be sturdy enough and could snap off. This is especially true where the shaft meets the body of the figure.

I do plan do to a bronze Argonaught for the Elf army, nice photo. it has been absorbed into my collective. JIM
Correction, I'm making a TALOS bronze statue. Although Elf Argonauts would be cool too.

Hey Jim
The Minotaur I did for one of the last Hoards would be a good start for a TALOS style model. I was planning on doing this but never got around to it (...and probably won't get around to it any time in the near future).
Do you want the SVG file for the Minotaur to work from? I can supply it without the bull's head if you like...
PM me if you would like it.

Elves look fine in 15mm scale! Here are mine : It's before lamination( plastification in French!) and mounted on a prototype "Battle Masters alike" base (small part of wood with carved slots and battlefield overlay glued on it). To be continued...Wabbitwampage PS:Sorry for the poor quality of the photograph (or photographer may be?)
