These are turning out really great Matt. Your design conjurs up that old Verticle/Horizontal arcade space shooter feel that I am such a sucker for.
I'd like to build these if you are still offering up a copy via e-mail.

Hello Floyd! I'll make sure I send you a batch once I have PDF'ed them. I've jotted down your email address. You may want to edit your last post to remove your email, so you don't get spammed. -Matt

That really does look awesome! The bent-down wing pods really add an extra sense of dimensionality. And of course the builder could theoretically make variations by having the pods angled down at 45 degrees, or even upward, and I think it'd probably still look as good.
I've looked at your post (using the Quote function) and I can't see anything you did wrong; teh IMG tags were absolutely fine, and the URL was right (tested it with a C/P into the URL bar). I'm guessing your host doesn't like its webspace being used for hot-linked images.

Not seeing the newer images, but the older ones are very interesting.

I have switched from Skydrive to Photobucket for posting images. For some reason Skydrive only let me link to a few public files (all previous images). Many thanks to Aestelon for suggesting Photobucket!!! Please go back to page one to see the first "pods downs" test builds and green and purple color variants. In other news: I've completed the build of the plane section of a red plane and it looks great! Hopefully I can post photos of the red and other color models this week end.

Oooh!!!! Lovin these WaffleM, particularly the purple one.
I'd love to build some. Let us know when you're ready to start emailing them out and I'll drop you a pm with my email address.

I've finished the test builds for the first four colors. Apart from some minor tweaking, I think they're pretty much finished. These models are not attached to flight bases yet, because I still need to pick up some clear spray acrylic. Once I've finished the bases, I'll post a photo with one of Jim's Marines. These fighters are not meant to be the same scale as 25-30mm figures, but I'll include a Marine for size comparison. I'm still working on orange and black versions, although black may not make the cut as I'm not sure if I like the white outlines...

Can we get a Bumble Bee coloured one, please?
These are great but of course now you have to make a number of different models from different manufactures.
This would work with a modded Wings of War style game.

Those look absolutely bloody brilliant! I think my favourites are the red (really striking) and purple (just plain cool), but they're all awesome. For the black one, have you considered just going for a really dark grey? Other dark versions of colours can be used to represent black very well too, especially cool colours like blue or turquoise, without looking too... well, grey.

Can we get a Bumble Bee coloured one, please? Are you thinking Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee, or Bumble Bee?Hopefully you are not thinking Bumble Bee or Bumble Bee... With enough time I'm planning to make different models with the same basic layout. That way wings, bodies, and tail fins will all be interchangeable. I have not played Wings of War, but I really should pick it up. It may be easier to mod an existing rule set than write my own. Any advice or input on the Wings of War rules?

That second one isn't Bumblebee - this is Bumblebee. The third one you pointed at doesn't even have a colourscheme. It has eight, as I recall (I have four).

I still need to test print and build these, but here are the orange and black fighters: I think the orange needs to be a bit darker and I'm not sure if the fine white outline will work with the black version (white outline is not visible in the above image). I'll know better after a test print. I may work on yellow and white next, but my original attempts at yellow looked really lame... edit: I've made the orange deeper and removed the white outline on the black fighters. After a test print the white outline did not seem necessary.

These are some of the coolest models EVER! I like the modular idea for building variations. It has a very Tattooine "parts laying all over the shop" feel. My cats like BumbleBee Tuna!
Have fun! Steve

Yellow and Gray are finished and have been test printed. I switched to gray instead of white, because the white designs looked too pale and may as well have been uncolored. I'm thinking of building the "bumble bee" version with a black body and tail fins and yellow wings. But maybe I'll focus on other models and finishing the rules...

Hey WaffleM!
Any chance on posting these bad boys for us to try and build?
I'm sure Jim would host the files for you.

If anyone is interested, all they have to do is send me a personal message with their email address and I'll send them out. Just let me know what colors you would like. I also have uncolored versions, so you can color your own. Actually I still have to create the instruction sheets for the fighters, but I think most folks can figure out how to build them. Other than that, everything is ready to go.

This is really cool, I really like how your taking advantage of the paper medium to use as part of the status in the game. This would be very tough to do in any other material.
If you plan to make a webpage for it when done, let me know and I'll link to it from my site. JIM

Thanks WaffleM! These truly are AWESOME! Thanks!!! Well, I really want to get the Flight Racer rules completed and them get some preliminary playtesting done. And then if it is as fantastic in real life as it is in my head (modest, aren't I? ), submit the rules here for more in depth playtesting and then work up a publishable document and make at least two more flight racer designs. If the game is only okay (or just plain stinks on ice!) then I'm not sure what my next project will be... Other projects I'm thinking of starting include an "army" style of figure similar to the way Jim produces his army figures, multiple parts (arms, legs, heads, bodies, etc.) to create a group of similar figures. My past figures (Puma, Mouse, and Badger) were unique designs with no chance to move parts. I'm thinking of making 2.5D angel warriors (flat figures with separately attached wings) to battle the demons. Unfortunately I'm much better with animals and vehicles than humans and humanoids...

This sounds very interesting! I've always wanted a cool set of Angelic Warriors to battle some minions of Hell! I'm picturing large sweeping wings, huge swords, shields, armor... cool! onemonkeybeau

Not saying what you will do with the whole Heavenly Host Vs. Hell but at the same time I would love to see Jim attack this too. Heaven - traditional + urban punk
Hell - Traditional + Cyber punk/Corp.
Actually it would be great to have Adam do something in this area too!

Just to update: I've revised the flight stand and base. The newest version has less color (just a gray to white gradient) to save on ink and toner. The base in no longer a circle; it is a twelve sided polygon which now includes notation for out of control spinning. This addition has removed the need for a spin template. If all goes well, all you will need to play the game (aside from the rules and a few flight racer models) is a pair of D6's and a 12" ruler.
Photos to follow soon.

Hey guys-just picked up on this thread! First-love the racer designs; they are looking sweet! Second-the whole Angels vs Demons fig idea...love it! And I would be well up for doing some designs if you are thinking of pooling design resources! Plus, my wife has been putting together a script for a graphic novel along similar themes and I still haven't gotten any character designs done, so it should get me back in the good books! And if anyone wants to make a fig of me starting the human race, make sure the fig leaf is covering the modesty LOL!
