Thanks for that! BTW... been a productive night. Printed out and am building the façade. Doing recessed arch and doors and such is a pain, but a dry fit shows that it should do okay. When I saw a post in the thread, I had to check it out, and if I'm checking it out, I might as well post. So I took a picture of the front wall where it will fit (once I finish building it) Here's the png of that part I needed a petal-connected dome to do the round thing that sits at the corner, so I heavily modified Sirrob's ufo dome. I'll be adding vaporators and assorted stuff on that page. I think it's coming together.

It was a good night Yes, a view of the entrance that Lucas didn't give us. I'll knock out the roof tomorrow and build some of the 'accessories' and figures. I'm hoping to make that broken dish thing by the Jerba. The vaporators should be pretty easy in 2d. Yep, it's been a lot of cardstock and ink, but it's a project someone should have done long ago. I really appreciate everyone's attention, assistance and encouragement. Thanks EDIT-- Not sure what happened. It was a great day when I realized that the roof overlay would fit on an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet. Nope. 8 1/2 X 11/1/2. I'm not sure where I was off. I've done this so that things can be broken down and stored, but the dome section does not attach securely (which the cats have proven many a time (they also are very intrigued with the black and white arch thingy, which I've had to search for three times since I built it last night)). As much as I wanted to keep the dome and façade parts separate, I think I'm going to have to treat them as one solid structure. So I'll just do the roof overlay for the dome/façade structure and put a wall behind it, so that it would look okay as a free-standing structure. In the various screen shots, the façade wall is about the same height as the building section the Jawas sit in front of, but not quite, so doing the small roof probably is acceptable (especially since I'm doubtful that Lucas put a roof on the section behind the façade at all). Not the way I had envisioned it, but also not necessarily incorrect. I was also looking at how I want to base the figures that I am adding to the scene. I think I'm going to do them with flat bases. Well, on to doing the roof overlay and wall, then finishing up the figures and vaporators.

Got the roof worked out. Measure twice, cut once. Figure out what went wrong. Fix it. Measure twice again, and voila!

Dangit! I guessed again on appropriate size. The surveillance deal looks neck high to head high when someone is standing next to it. So on the template, I made the dome 2 inches across. And at this size, it was a colossal pain to build, but being stubborn, here it is, in all its miniature glory. If anyone needs it for a 15mm Star Wars game ... On the other hand, it will be much easier to build when I enlarge it

Okay, you all can burn me at the stake for what I am about to say...
I do models, not vignettes, because all these figures are a tedious pain in the neck. It's no wonder so many of you have robocutters.
AAAaaarrrgghh! Okay, I feel better now
EDIT -- I think I'm going to have to cut back on which figures are getting used. I wish I'd used figures with wider black borders ...

As it is, I did 14 bases last night, one of bravesirkevin's bases that I made a sheet of. Six figures cut out and based. They look pretty good. I need to go back to my original Dewback for distribution, instead of the one I posted that is a blend of the cartoonized one and the original. It looks good on the page, but is too dark and loses detail after printing.

Well, I'm back in town, and I'm going to start a Batman-related project. Interspersed with that, I'm going to be releasing some of the Cantina Elements. As the dome is not mine, I won't be releasing the dome, but the 5X6 building, the 3X3 terrace, the tether stones, the short 4X6 building with the double arch roof overlay, along with the entrance in the form of a rectangular structure will all be coming in a few weeks. I'm working on a new dome to transfer the artwork for the surveillance thing to. When that is done, I'll release it as well. The windows that I took from the Kinect sets will not be on these. I'll use windows and doors that I develop myself.

Was it @sirrob1 that created the dome? He has shared so much cool stuff in the past, I would be surprised he would start being protective now. Did you ask him if you could release it? It would be good to have a complete building.

I've tried contacting him, but I'm not sure his email is the same. I'm designing my own dome now. I need to fiddle with it a bit more.
On sirrob's dome, it wasn't designed for the use I put it to, so I added tabs that fold under. The base is a smaller diameter than the top, so it glues onto those tabs.
The one I'm working on will have an octagonal base that will be more solid to glue the pod base to.
I just don't want to create any issues

So, with the blessing of Sirrob01, here is the surveillance dome. On my original version, I edge glued the darker base piece to the tabs at the base of the dome. I now have a dome base plate. The base piece is not as tricky as it looks. Bend the top tabs down, then complete the circle on the dark reddish band. I have score lines on this part in case it isn't obvious where to fold. Then use the tabs, one section at a time. I used 110# cardstock and only scored lightly at the base of any of the tabs, except for the bottom tabs of the dome and the top tabs of the base. Other than those, scoring may not be necessary. I used a marble to round out the joins on the dome. Heavy scoring would have made that more difficult. I posted this as a png file, so enlarging would be easier, should you so choose

Things like this support my theory about the use of facades in filming Star Wars They must have had rolls and rolls of that wallpaper they have around that doorway. When you start looking for it, you notice that Lucas used it all over the place. I was going to work at getting all the Kinect windows and doors out of the desert models tonight, so I was looking at Tunisia desert dwellings. Since some of the buildings didn't get a full treatment, I thought they would capture the feel, without being too Star Wars-ish

Alas, my search for windows, doors and a different plaster texture ran too late last night. This morning it hit me that I should look at my texture library and see if anything there could be adapted, and sure enough, I found one that looks pretty good with slight modification. I have an appointment to run after work tonight, but I will work on getting the new windows, doors and plaster done ... hopefully. Tomorrow night I should be able to start getting some of the buildings posted.
I was going to totally get rid of Star Wars doors and windows, but thanks to the Tunisia Tourism Board, many of the sets are still around with doors and windows. So I will be using some of these in the new format. Unfortunately, the cantina was sitting in the same place too long. If something doesn't move, you tend not to see it after a while. Cats are really bad at that. They had a little tiff this morning and Gracie jumped right onto the cantina, crushing two of the buildings and bending another. I didn't have the double arch roof overlay glued down, and her rear foot went through it. I had to chase her down, so I could get it off her leg. I would recommend doing an X support inside the structure if you plan on leaving them out where kids and cats can get at them

ouch, bad kitty!
I believe that our cat thinks it was able to train me to do a weird dance when it comes into my work room. Because when it does, I start wailing my arms and yelling "shooo, shooo" :-)

And why do I waste so much forum memory with my 'in progress' files? When I lose my computer, I can go back and pull the files from the forum. I wish I'd posted more here on this project. I don't have much of it on this computer...
