PDF file for the Ancient Red DragonTook me forever to sort out all of the bugs between InDesign and Acrobat, but finally sorted out the PDF file. You can click on the image to switch to the black & white version. Click the the little black silhouette in the lower corner to add a black border, click it again to remove it. I'd recommend cutting a 8" x 1" strip of the same material you print the dragon on, fold it in half (4"x1") and glue it between the two sides of the dragon with about an inch or so sticking out from the bottom and forming two tabs. Glue these tabs inbetween the bases to help support the dragon.

I love this so much. I just abandoned two dragon designs and I am working on some at the moment. This looks amazing.

Very pretty. I truly enjoy watching artists work. Never let your skills slip Yeah, that's pretty much the reason I started doing PrintableHeroes; found I'd somehow wandered too far off the path of creating art and needed to find a project with clear(ish) goals to keep me creating on a regular basis. Thanks guys for all the positive feedback! I already see things I wish I'd done better on the beast, but I'm glad he's finally done, released, and I can move on to new minis

...I'm glad he's finally done, released, and I can move on to new minis Unless you fancied doing a 2.5D version with separate wings, of course I was seriously thinking of doing a 2.5D mod, but I think it would require significant internal support. Being tall, I was thinking we might be putting too much torque on the body. Thinking I'd need to either put a cereal box card layer or a couple pages of card in between to do it, I still wondered if it might end up with a lean or a twist, so I looked at separating out the back legs to give it a 3-point stance, and if you do that you might as well do the front legs, too. I think it could be done, but I'd be afraid of messing it up. So, I'm back to thinking it is great the way it is

So, I'm back to thinking it is great the way it is Oh yeah, after seeing all of Trash Mobs amazing 2.5D dragons I was very tempted to try and go 2.5D with this guy, but I was just too far along on the design and ran into all of the same concerns you just mentioned above. If I was to try then I think I'd separate the front arms, upper shoulders, and wings all as one piece on each side, then also break out the back legs, and for good measure I'd add a tab to the bottom of the tail so you could wrap it around and attached it to the base for extra stability on the front or back depending on if/where it started listing.

I hadn't considered doing the front arms and wings as one piece, but looking at it, that makes sense
I think I may still have to try it...
BTW -- I think wrapping the tail back will make it less stable. Center of gravity is pushed forward quite a bit, which would be thrown off by having double sides on parts and possibly a center piece of mat board or cereal box inside the body. Think of a tightrope walker. The tail is like the pole moving the center of gravity backwards, allowing it to be stable on two legs and a tail

[Edit] I'll upload the PSD file when I get home and make it available for anyone who wants to tinker with it.

I actually think I can use what is already posted. I probably won't even get a chance until the weekend of the 17th

One option would be to reduce the size of the mini (not sure "mini" is a wholly appropriate description in this case!), if only to use that for testing. Looking at the model again since I posted earlier though, I suspect you may be right.

RE: wrapping the tail - One could try physically curling the tail around in an arc, rather than making new art showing it up against the body (if that's what you're thinking about). If that proves unstable, you can just straighten it back out again.
