Are you going to keep the dino mostly in 2D? If so, what are you going to do with the insides of the legs? Jeep looks great, btw.

The dinos are tents. I mirror print on the back to avoid all the whiteness. The ones I did in the past were printed at two pages per page and I thought they looked small, especially since I made the vehicles bigger than the ones I did for Isaiah. I probably made these too big, but for a six-year-old, I think they will be fine.
I finished the Explorer last night and started cutting out the Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops, thinking I'd do a shot of the vehicles with a couple dinos, but didn't get the dinos done. Oops. Too much phone time, but hey, it's the holidays

Nah, don't worry, as long as you're done by x-mas eve, everything should be fine...

I hope the following photos illustrate why I like the Kamikami dinos and the Patrick Pasques JP Explorer Probably should have used 110# instead of 67# cardstock. Oh, well

Those little vehicles turned out great! I really like all the details of the green one. Interesting dinosaur build, I haven't tried designing a "tented" model yet... STOP GIVING ME IDEAS!

Actually, when I was young, a lot of the cereal back cut-outs were tented, and in some cases they work fairly well. The Tyrannosaurus works well because of the base, which I have glued to tablet backing. The Triceratops that I'm working on next was one that I haven't done in the past. It does not have a base, so I am going to make my own. I was working on an 8 1/2 X 11 ground texture tonight, so that I can make a sheet and cut out ground/bases for the quadrupeds.
The dinos I did earlier for a friend's son were all bipedal, so I didn't look closely enough to see that I was going to have to do that, but I did leave tabs on the Triceratops's feet to do it.
The Kamikami dinos was my first foray into the Wayback Machine. I was so pleased to be able to find papercrafts that were so perfect for the JP playset for Isaiah
EDIT -- I should have had the names of the dinos somewhere on the templates, so I could glue them onto the bottom of the bases. Oops.
And in this collection, there are no raptors or stegosaurs. I might have to see if I can cobble something together

Finished another dino over lunch, and scored another, ready to cut out. Much faster than the jeeps

Well, my old memory is leaving me with a vague recollection of when my son was young. He had trading cards for Jurassic Park that we cut off a Fruit Rollups box or something, and I remember this side view that is used on the Weetabix cereal back. It was a clean image, which I think had a beige background with a black border and a JP logo in the corner. I could easily make a velociraptor in the kamikami style if I could only find a clean image. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, found a clean image of the velociraptor, on, of all things, a Brazilian phone card. Haven't worked it up, yet. Just building dinos. I'm thinking I shouldn't have enlarged them by 10%, but I think Zoe will like them. And here's what I've got so far

After the Ankylosaurus, I think I am going to try some trees, before going on to the gate. Then I'll come back to finish up with more dinos.
The more I see the front end of the #18 Jeep, the more satisfied I am with it.
Would anyone be interested in a less toy-like JP Jeep? I really would like to go back and make one that is more realistic. I think I have enough views to be able to throw one together, but not until after this project is complete

Well, while the pizza was baking, I had to try it ... It looks like it should work. We'll see I ended up enlarging them and adding the tabs for the feet.

You put a mirror back on everything, so that is a page with two raptors, not four, right?

I think it was worth getting sidetracked

No, it is a pack of four raptors. I actually print mirrored on the back of the page instead of having two layers glued together.

It was impossible to go on to anything else until I had at least done a test build. Sometimes you just have a hunch that something should be done, and if you don't do it right then and there, you regret it. I had planned on doing the other five dinos first, so the raptor was on the bottom of the stack to be scored, but when I scored it, I knew it had to be first.

I will use them for riding raptors if anyone I know ever plays in Eberron again.

Did two more of the kamikami dinos last night. I'm going to do another velociraptor (cut out, but not edged) and then some of the Momir Farooq trees. I may or may not get the gate done. I'm not sure it is all that necessary for a playset.

Raptor done. Two sets of trees printed, coated and scored. I'm thinking that these have promise, but I think I'd prefer different leaves. Several of these as branches would look cool Or the leaves of a decorative plant

I think I actually have enough now to make the little girl happy, but the creative side has also hit.
I pick up projects that are done a little differently than I'm used to, in order to get ideas. Got side-tracked from the trees last night. Can you say Brachiosaur? With it, I have decided that for strength, it needs to not be mirror printed on the back but needs the extra strength of having outside and inside pieces laminated together. It may or may not get done, but I think that it is a worthwhile exercise. Sort of like the jeeps. I'm also trying not to get a cold right now and we may have bad weather moving in this weekend. If I succumb to the cold or the weather does turn out bad, I'll probably do the gate and Brachiosaur. Otherwise, the trees will finish off the set.
I suppose I should do a template for the Raptor bases, then you can put in whatever base texture you want to use

You can just use the base image I started with. Took it off the back of a phone card, I think

I'm thinking that if I hadn't already printed these, I'd just mirror print the leaves. It would be considerably less cutting and less edging

As it was, I printed out two sets of two trees. I regret having divided them up before scoring, otherwise I could have reprinted on the back.
I do have a question -- I often mirror print on the backs of things to avoid the blinding white without having to use pens to color-fill. Am I a rarity in that? To me it just makes sense.
I was just wondering.
And I don't like that these trees are so small. Even with the leaves on them, I doubt they would be 10 feet tall in scale. I think I'm going to Gimp me a larger one with longer branches and less cutting by mirror printing the leaves.
Then after the trees, it is time to finish working out the Brachiosaurus. My son says that Zoe would like it more than the JP Gate. Since weather is keeping me cooped up tomorrow, I might decide to do both. Not sure

I do have to admit the tree looks good. The same effect could be done easier, though. And they ought to be taller. You can't even park the Explorer under it ...

I enlarged the tree with enough leaves to do up another regular-sized tree. I think the larger size will be less fiddly to build, and with the mirror printed leaves, less cutting and edging. And a whole lot less glue ... I'm hoping the roads will be clear enough to get out and get more glue tomorrow before the snow hits
