RIP Carrie Fisher.
She was the only celebrity I was ever truly "in love" with (in as much as one can know being in love before puberty.) She was a big part of changing my world when I was 7 years old and saw Star Wars. Through my adulthood, I always read the news stories involving her when I saw them. When I heard the original cast had signed on for the new Star Wars movies, I was excited mostly about Carrie Fisher reprising her role as Princess Leia.
Alliance flags at half mast...

She was also successful novelist and screenplay writer (vide Postcards from the Edge) and person with huge sense of humor and self-mockery.
"Drowned in moonlight, strangled by her own bra..."
It's about George Lucas asking her to not wear underwear because there's no underwear in space...
" He said it with such conviction. Like he had been to space and looked around and he didn't see any bras or panties anywhere. He explained. "You go into space and you become weightless. Then your body expands but your bra doesn't, so you get strangled by your own underwear."
I think that this would make for a fantastic obituary. I tell my younger friends that no matter how I go, I want it reported that I drowned in moonlight, strangled by my own bra."

I'm sorry to hear that she is gone, but being down sick today, my brain is leaning toward the dark side. My first thought was that Lucas killed off the wrong bad guy parent. Which, of course, woke me up to how horrible that thought was. It's a shame that she is gone

According to the BBC retrospective on her, she was also known as a very successful script doctor for Hollywood, a position that literally gets no credit but lots of money. Multi-talent, style, gracious.

The script doctor was an element of her life I was totally unaware of.

According to the BBC retrospective on her, she was also known as a very successful script doctor for Hollywood, a position that literally gets no credit but lots of money. Multi-talent, style, gracious. She did it from the early 90s to the early 2000s, when she got fed up with the business side of it and quit. During that period, a top screen doctor would be paid $100,000 a week, and Carrie was one of the best, specializing in reworking and beefing up female parts and romantic scenes. She was also the lead writer for at least one Academy Awards show, but I can't quickly find out which year that was. What makes the whole thing even more sad, though, is that Debbie Reynolds, her mother, passed away the next day, apparently from grief more than anything else. According to her son, Carrie's brother Todd, Debbie said, "I just want to be with Carrie." Both women will be deeply missed.

Deepest sympathies to the family. That has got to be rough
I heard that Debbie Reynolds had a stroke while planning Carrie's funeral.
Holy smokes.
