I'm curious about these new Ecotank printers from Epson. Has anyone tried them yet? They are a bit higher than comparable printers to purchase, but the ink bottles are much, much cheaper than cartridges, running about $10-$12 (per color) for as much ink as in many, many cartridges. I don't mind my HP Officejet Pro 8600, but I have't been too satisfied with the off-brand inks I've tried lately. (Refilling HP carts at Costco was working well, but the colors from the Ikong cartridges I just got in are very, very muddy.) The thing that appeals about the Ecotank printers is you can effectively buy brand-name replacement ink at off-brand replacement prices, since you aren't re-buying the stupid, overly-engineered cartridges over and over. Anyone actually used an Ecotank yet? Or at least seen one in a physical store?

Interesting. I was in a store that sells these (amongst many other printer types) just last week, chatting to the manager (who I've known for some years). His only negative comment echoed that from oldschooldm on the other Epson topic, that the print quality isn't so good as I can get with my current Brother printer. Maybe worth checking some comparison stats for the continual ink type printers as well on overall ink costs?
