From the picture it seems as if your lower bar of the cow catcher does not come out of the engine at 90°. You should perhaps start with this lower bar and construct up from there... I wish I hadn't already started printing the new parts. For the Leviathan, I think I am going to make a right triangle to fit in the center of the cowcatcher. Same dark gray as the interior of the piece so it will disappear basically, but it will keep the angles correct. I made a file that has the blue circus freight wagon and the new cowcatcher parts. I suppose I can print on the back ...

Surgery was clean. I'm spending a lot of time on this, so I don't have to jimmy each cowcatcher on every train. With the cowcatcher pulled off, I have to question my new parts. sitting in front, on the ground, the piece looks square, but when dry holding in place, the base needs trimmed off or run under the front of the train, leaving the back too short for the mounting tab to fit into place. On the new pieces, the cowcatcher bars are 1% longer and the triangle is 1% shorter. I'm going to have to build it with temporary glue stick because I am sure that the bars will be too long. If I build it to come apart, I will be able to take it apart and scan it back into the computer

I see why so many of the models out there just make a 4-sided pyramid for the cowcatcher. I have no doubt that this is the primary reason why they did a new version of the train, but the cowcatcher on it is equally awkward to build and cannot look 'right'. I seem to be putting a lot of time into getting this to work, but if I can get it to be successful, it will be a way to do the cowcatcher without it requiring each bar being placed separately like that Reno model on the previous page. I still can't picture me edge-gluing each bar, top and bottom, and keeping them evenly spaced and aligned.
The original concept for this cowcatcher is good, in that bar spacing and alignment are automatic by having that as one piece, but the geometry is off. By having the lower edge bars glued over the top, it will help mask any build errors. I think that the triangle former will help to get this 'right'. I should have made lines to indicate position of the former. Oops.
I haven't even talked about the cab roof issue, yet.

So, I have the cowcatcher worked out, but I don't think I have time to do the Lincoln Funeral Train before the end of the month.
I'll have to think on this overnight.
Another project I've wanted to do for a long time that fits into the 'prepare for April' theme is the Vernor's Ginger Ale delivery wagon. Vernor's may be the oldest bottled carbonated beverage in the U.S. Possibly. But after Dr. Pepper bought them, they were pulled from the Kansas City market. Razzum frazzum. My old gf would be over the moon if I came up with this. I have a couple images from the late 1800's, so it would require a bit of guesswork, like the circus wagons. Of course those images are black and white, but I have some images of vintage signs to get the proper colors. When I started collecting those images, I also got as many images of the drugstore where Vernor's got its start. The thought process was to have the delivery wagon in front of the drugstore.
I could probably get the Leviathan Engine done, but not the funeral car, the officers car or the passenger cars.
Or I could do the Vernor's delivery wagon, but not the drugstore.
Or I could take a break

Another tragic loss. The cowcatcher and lamp pieces would have been nice to still have...

And with Robert Conrad gone, I really wish I hadn't lost all this material

With the new West World section, this made me check to see how much of it was retrieved from the hard drive, and it all seems to be there. On another forum, a fellow built a model of the 'Jupiter' from the Golden Spike ceremony. The Jupiter was scrapped long ago, so this is the model of the stand-in at the museum, which was the Inyo, which was also used as the Wanderer in the Wild Wild West. Wouldn't you love to have that on your old west table?
