I finally got around to purchasing most of the DFD stuff last night. I had a couple questions in regards to tile assembly.
1. When I cut the tiles out do I cut them out as 4"x4" squares or do I cut out the white unused portions of said 4x4 tile? I know if I use the 3d walls, I will need to trim down, but the rules stated something about "drawing a random tile" and I am not sure how to do that if they are not the uniform 4x4 tiles.
2. If I am going to use the walls, should I just print the tiles onto cardstock, or should I still mount them to something thicker?
Everything I've seen of this looks GREAT so far. The mini sets and all their variations will keep my hobby knife busy for quite a while!

Thanks for picking up the game. My phone buzzed alerting me to your purchase in the night. I cut down the tiles to 4x4 squares to play the tile only game. I glue them to mattboard/illustration board for sturdiness. For the walls I do the same, but cut them to the shapes of the wall/hall shape as needed. There is a random table in the Advanced Rules that let you randomly choose a hall section instead of drawing a tile. I've used the table sometimes instead of drawing tiles even when I'm using tiles.
The game has such re-play fun and it's awesome to throw in odd stuff like the Eldritch Cthulhu stuff or even superheroes from Save the Day.
I'm currently working on the Role Playing Game for Darkfast and the focus is on starting play fast.

If I can toss in my two cents here...What I did was print the tiles out, spraymount them onto foamcore (the cheapo dollar-store stuff is fine for this purpose), and then with a fresh, fat black marker, colored in the white areas to be black. I found the white SUPER distracting, but the game doesn't work smoothly if you just cut the white off and leave a bunch of random-shaped tiles, since you draw them randomly from a face-down stack to build the dungeon. Even so, I appreciate David not wasting my printer ink on printing that much black space, and going over the white spaces with a black marker didn't take long at all.

That's good advice Jeffgeorge. I've even seen people cut out the shapes and glue THAT onto the black foamcore.

That's good advice Jeffgeorge. I've even seen people cut out the shapes and glue THAT onto the black foamcore. That would work, but black foamcore is $8 a sheet, and dollar store foamcore is...well...a dollar... AND it comes in black, now that I think about it!

Black acrylic paint shouldn't eat up foamcore, should it? For the edges of the white core on cheap black foamcore?

Black acrylic paint shouldn't eat up foamcore, should it? For the edges of the white core on cheap black foamcore? I think the main danger is spray paint, not brushed-on acrylic, but it should be easy to spot-check it on a piece of scrap. Afterthought: It's actually pretty effective to do the edges of black foamcore with a wide black Sharpie, a black Marksalot, or similar black permanent marker. If the marker is fresh, it will give you better than 90% coverage on the edge of the foamcore, with no melting and no drying time. I blacken the corners of the foamcore bases for the Dungeons of Olde tiles, which can sometimes peek through the corners of the finished tiles. The marker marks pretty well on the foam edges, with no unfortunate side-effects.

Thank you guys for the help! Thanks for picking up the game. You are so very welcome! I just wish I had been paying attention to this site when you launched the KS for it. The fact that I missed out on the exclusive set is going to drive me batty My phone buzzed alerting me to your purchase in the night. Now I am curious. Do you get a notification on every sale or just the larger ones? As I do most of my DriveThruRPG shopping late at night, I would feel bad if sellers are getting bugged at 1 AM for all my small purchases.

I get an email when I make a sale. If I am paying attention I usually notice it. I was sleeping/thinking/drifting/writing in my head at the time. Most emails at night are either sales or alerts from Michaels about sales.
I am currently writing four Darkfast setting books at the moment and there is SO MUCH more art to turn into paper minis, it's not funny.
The cool thing is that a lot of what was once just a daydream has become something realized and playable/consumable for other people. That's kind of cool that stuff that's been floating around in my head since the mid-seventies is now on someone's gaming table.

Well, it's not quite on my gaming table yet (at least not assembled) . Apparently when you try to do ALL of DFD at once, its literally a whole ream of paper. I haven't even printed the furniture pieces or tiles yet. Which brings me to my next question; is the tiles in the Realm of Shades set supposed to be used instead of or in addition to the base set tiles?

The Realm of Shades tiles are in addition and help expand the variety of the base set. Justs adds a bit of colour.
