Will they be doing this again this year? I didn't see any pumpkins yet...

Isn't it a bit early in the month??!?

I had it in my head that it was pretty much all month last year, but maybe I'm confuzzled. I'm sure there's a thread around here somewhere that would say...

In the last couple of years, I was one of the early hunters, along with Rhannon and some others. I assure you that the Halloween treasure hunt was on the last weeek before the end of the month, this year may start around 24 oct. Obviously, OBS sites may change their plans...

Sounds like Halloween Sale starts next week

Vermin King: Yep, from the vague comment in this week's OBS Newsletter! Worth saying too that there are already quite a few publishers who have launched their own sales for Hallowe'en on OBS well in advance, along with the various horror-themed Bundles of Holding set-up similarly - there are currently two Cubicle 7 Bundles, for example, for Cthulhu Britannica and World War Cthulhu (which interestingly includes some of their Cold War items as well), that I've not seen mentioned on the CWF elsewhere so far.

Well, good news and bad news, folks. On the plus side, OBS Halloween Sales are in full effect as of yesterday. On the minus, no sign or merest mention of Trick or Treating this year - we'll have to hope that it happens next week. I checked all the usual suspect pages, too. For now you can check out the offers on RPGNow and kin. I've linked the main sales page for RPGNow's Halloween sales, and their special bundle offers. "You have 14 days, 23 hours and 31 minutes to get some spooky savings! Also, go door-to-door for more Halloween treats on DriveThruCards, DriveThruComics and DriveThruFiction!" Doesn't that sound like what they used to say for the treasure hunt/trick or treating? :/

I checked at DriveThruCards, to see if that message meant that they were doing the trick-or-treat thing there. Here's the message I got there:
Just the same as at DTRPG, with the sites switched. So it seems that there won't be trick-or-treating this year, which is kinda sad, because everyone likes a scavenger hunt. But really, I didn't get much use out of the stuff I downloaded in last year's hunt, so in terms of actual useful stuff, there's not much of a loss, for me at least.
On the other hand, I noticed that several of our CWF-member publishers have spooky-themed mini sets included in the sale, which motivates me to pick up a few sets that I missed along the way. (I'm behind on printingt and assembling the sets I've already bought, actually, which has slowed my purchases of late.) Thanks, guys!

Gosh WackyAnne, nice to see you again! It's been almost a year here without you I note, though I spotted you'd surfaced elsewhere (Okumarts, from memory?) recently. Hope that just means you've had too much gaming going on to drop-by, not for any other reasons. Some of us still fondly recall your own papercraft contributions to a previous CWF Halloween Hoard! On topic, we may be worrying too soon here, as checking back over the last couple of years, the "magic" OBS jack o'lanterns only started appearing around Oct 24 or 25. Even so, the current 31% Halloween Sale discount is higher than any other OBS promotion this year, as far as I recall (GM's Day was closest, at 30%). I agree jeffgeorge that the free Halloween options can be hit and miss, but I still recall getting a free copy of the earliest D&D Castle Ravenloft scenario in (I think) my first year with an OBS account, which, for all its deadliness, remains a particular favourite of mine - and still being revamped from time to time too. So that remains an incentive for future hope. That and my ever-increasing wishlist...

Treasure Hunt symbols have now appeared on OBS! Weirdly, they don't seem to be mentioned in the latest Newsletter (or did I just miss it?). Nine found so far on DriveThru RPG: 1) Home page, left column, below "Four Horsemen Blog" symbol, gets you the already free Fiasco Camp Death ( Fiasco scenario). 2) Hallowe'en Sales pages, above start of product listing, gets you the paid-for Snap Sites: Vamonos Pizza system-agnostic scenario. 3) The "My Wishlist" page, towards the foot of the page, gets you the already free Hack-style RPG Ghost Hackers. 4) The "My Library" page, right at the end of the page, gets you our very own Mesper's PERMES FREE Pumpkin Mounted Knights. 5) The "About Us" page, towards the end of the page, gets you the paid-for Age of Cthulhu 3: Shadows of Leningrad Age of Cthulhu scenario by Goodman Games. 6) The "Genre - Horror" page, top of the page, gets you the free sample, cut-down version of the Dead Things PnP board game. 7) The "Latest Newsletter" page, sidebar, below the "Wargame Vault" link icon, gets you the already free Something Wicked Stirs scenario for the Chronicles of Ramlar RPG. 8) The "My Account" - "Newsletters and Follow Your Favorites" page, above the "Follow your Favorites" section, gets you the already free The Kitten OSR Character Class for Hack-style games. 9) The "Products Awaiting My Review" page also under "My Account", top of the page, gets you the already free Bob, Lord of Evil Poster 1 - Cover Art from the Bob, Lord of Evil RPG. There may be more, and I haven't checked any of the other OBS sites as yet...

OK. DriveThru Cards appears to have nothing as yet, nor does Dungeon Masters Guild (though I didn't make a thorough check of either, I did check some of the more consistently-chosen pages to hide the freebie icons in past years elsewhere on OBS). DriiveThru Comics though has: 1) Bottom of homepage ---> The Tithe #1. 2) Top of Halloween Sale page ---> Badabing Badaboom. 3) Top of Genre - Horror page ---> vs. Stranger Stuff mini RPG. 4) Bottom of My Library page ---> the PERMES free Pumkin Knights set again (popular!). 5) Bottom of My Wishlist page ---> the Ghost Hackers RPG again. 6) Top of the Products Awaiting My Review page ---> the Bob, Lord of Evil cover art poster again. 7) Newsletters and Follow Your Favorites page, above the "Follow Your Favorites" segment ---> Witch Hunter issue 13. 8) End of left sidebar on the Our Latest Newsletter page ---> Escape from Zombie Earth. 9) Bottom of the About Us page ---> Valiant Universe Handbook: 2015 Edition #1.

And while still staggering in disbelief that I actually managed to accomplish all this without being ninja'd by anyone else, for the sake of completeness, I also checked the RPGNow site as well, as it sits forlorn these days, without a single link from any of its OBS sister sites, Cinderella in rags, as 'twere. Sadly, the links I found there simply duplicated those on DTRPG, except for that on the homepage, which isn't present on RPGNow, and nor could I find it elsewhere. If someone else does - or indeed any others I've missed on any of the sites - please do say, before it's too late

As far as I can tell, the two sites are identical except for the color scheme.

Just crawled through various Trick n treat (thank you wyvern fro all the links) but I must admit that this year is a very "low profile" treasure hunt. I don't understand the meaning of linking as "treasure" something that is already free or I've still to pay for...

You're quite right aleks; I don't understand why OBS has made this such a low-profile year for the hunt, with still no official announcement I've seen about it - and I'd guess now it will all be over before their next scheduled Newsletter appears. It may be the Halloween Sale has run longer this time, or been more extensive than past years (I don't recall those details well enough to tell though).
