Having made a whole slew of template files for myself, I've settled on some textures. I'm working through building everything, and making sure the cutfiles all work, too. I've made a lot of mistakes, but everything is lining up nicely now. Still so much to do, but I'm trying to stay focused!

Kinda small view, but from what I see, it looks good. How extensive is this set going to be?

It's going to be a fairly inexpensive, basic set. It'll have 6x6", 3x6" and 3x3" tiles in a basic texture with some variants. I think there'll be 7-10 different 6" walls, and maybe 4-5 different 3" walls. Posts for the walls in corner, side and center varieties. And edges/railings to go along the exposed edges of the tiles. Once that's done, I've got a bajillion little expansions to play with. I've got sketches up the wazoo, but I'm trying to stay focused because instructions need to be written, promo pictures need to be made... All the little details that prevent me from releasing ANYTHING. But once I have all of the templates made up, I can start work on a bunch of projects I've been wanting to do for years.

Just re-uploaded the picture. When I emailed it off my phone, I apparently originally picked "super small" as the attached image size...

It looks really, really good. Glad that time is starting to free up. I took a night off from everything tonight and watched Kingsman again with a cat in my lap. Balance, Grasshopper. Seriously, this looks like something a lot of folks are going to want

I know I've said it before, but one thing I really enjoy watching on this forum is progress on modular dungeon models and systems. Just makes me happy, that's all.

I have all the tiles affixed to foam core, a crap-ton of posts finished, plug-in edges seem to work for upper levels, and stairs built like a champ. I made the stairs assemble with gaps on the side with the hopes that I'll be able to plug in railings. We'll see. I am hoping that the stairs will build such that they can slip into the posts, too, but I may just modify them later. I'm trying to move backwards as little as possible. So, now I'm going to focus on some different walls, then it's full-time on the instructions!

Playing around with some ideas for wall textures.
This is fun, but I think I'm drifting off of my whole "stay focused" thing. I will probably shelve a lot of these and put them out as a cheap-o expansion.

I think we all suffer from a lack of focus sometimes. How long have I been working on the Citizens Security Bank and the M-ATV?

Squeezing out a couple minutes of work tonight... mighty big flames, lol. You know, there's something that has always bugged me and my overthinking the silly things kind of brain about prelit dungeons. Who/what keeps the torches lit? I'd handwave it with "magic" something or another, but not all dungeons can justify it. Anyway, this is looking great so far!

I'd handwave it with "magic" something or another, but not all dungeons can justify it. Anyway, this is looking great so far! There is even more to it. The oil was rare and precious throughout the history, thus no one (even the emperors) could afford all their halls (less even hallways and dungeons!) be under light most the time. Dark and gloomy atmosphere gripped the chamber walls before the light bulb saw the light of the day.

And all this is why you might print more of the walls *without* the torches than walls *with* the torches. BUT... You might be exploring the cellars below a ruined old manor, for example, and maybe there's a gang using it as a hideout, and some of them are *there* when you go exploring, and they've lit up some of the rooms... It also turns out that throughout history, real magic was actually pretty rare, but that doesn't stop my wizard for flinging fire bolts at free random. Pew pew. "Who/what keeps the torches lit?" Why, imagination does. That's the real magic. Maybe I should simply color the flames green, and everyone will think "clearly they must be MAGIC flames, so it's cool." Ha ha ha.

Or maybe there is an olive press hundreds of feet above the cavern and the dungeon dwellers siphon some of the oil off for their own fell purposes

Aw crap. Windows 10 apparently decided it would install updates last night, and closed everything. Who thought that was a good f'ing feature!?!?$!#?$! I can't believe I walked away last night without saving my last set of changes. I save ALL THE TIME. I think I've been tired. Guess I'm starting over from scratch with the torches.

Dude, set it to manual update! My IT guy set my computer up that way from the beginning.
I am so sorry. Reminds me of some of the times I've totally lost files. Hopefully you can rebuild quickly

This is the one feature of Windows 10 that is absolutely annoying. I mean I get why they did it, and it probably is in everyone's best interest honestly, but still very frustrating. Only the enterprise editions of windows 10 have fully controllable update options. However, if you set the settings for your internet connect to "metered," most auto updates will stop, but not all. Also, make sure any computer you use for projects isn't signed up whatever Microsoft calls their beta/early access builds, as those systems auto update MUCH more frequently.

Recent Win 10 updates have been causing problems more generally, it seems. A colleague on another Forum recently had to de-install the latest "update" as it was causing his PC to take 45 minutes and more to shut down! Haven't had quite that problem yet, but it does seem to be taking longer for me too to do so of late.

Six-inch walls are packaged up! I was hoping to avoid lots of layers, and just do lots of pages. I settled on a small number of both - currently two pages with 8 layers, so you can add the torches and change their configuration, and add a couple door styles or an archway. Time to load up the printer with paper and incrementally test-print them. If they look good, I'll apply the layers to 3" walls and cross that off my list!

20 walls assembled this morning. I think I need to lighten my doors up *just a tad*. Up really close they're fine, but at playing distance, the details get lost to my slowly aging eyes. But, shorter walls aren't far off!

Lightened up my doors, rebuilt the 6" wall PDF, laid out the 3" wall PDF, and the printer is humming! Just in time for my phone to remind me I can't get 8 hours of sleep if I don't go to bed *now*. Tomorrow I start working on the instructions, and I'll be starting to have fun actually laying out a dungeon for some promo pics. I'd love for this to be finished in 2017 - I can't tell you how many years late this is! lol

I'm excited that I've started to put a small dent in the instruction process. It's going to be a lot of work, and it's not the fun play-with-textures work that I'm into, but once it's done it's done. Mostly. So, I think the next couple weeks will be instruction related. I hope that once the basics are done, I'll be able to simultaneously release little add-ons using the templates that I have, additional base sets, and start working on the next round of templates for the pieces I didn't get to this first time around.

My company has a use-it-or-lose-it policy with respect to vacation time. I'm "forced" to take a lot of time off in December... I've already taken a week off made great progress on making instructions. I rigged up a MacGyver-style paper holder for my iPhone on top of my dogfood tupperware bin... I have a couple more weeks off before the year is through, so here comes the big push!
The instructions are *almost done*! In the process of building everything in front of a camera, I discovered minor issues with the walls, the floors, some of the PDFs, some cutfiles... It was a good process, but it left me with lots of little details to clean up. I can't wait to be done; the list is getting short:
1) Refine and finish the end caps for the floors (they'll be plug-in railing type pieces). They are the final bit that needs instructions. 2) Review all of the cutfiles after a round of refinements to the PDFs. 3) Make a cutting guide PDF for each cutfile, to aid those folks who don't have a robocutter and might want an easy picture of where to cut and score. 4) Make a couple promo picture of dungeon builds.
So many things I've tabled until this core stuff gets done. Keepin' my eyes on the finish line, though!

It never ceases to amaze me how 'little, barely noticeable' things seem to crop up, even though I try to use extreme care when developing them.
I have gotten to where I measure over and over, and then I get to the end and find out I still have a problem. I've mentioned a few times about test building. I'm certainly glad you do.
Good luck with this

Finished the instructions (except for a cover image), double-checked the PDFs, double-checked the cutfiles, and made cutting guides for all the PDFs. I need to build a bunch of pieces in order to take some promo pics. It turns out, my printer ink has been in various states of running-out such that I have three different colored tiles! So, lots of rebuilding, hopefully this weekend. I've only got 2 days of work off before the holidays, but I've got the week of the 25th off... This won't be out for Christmas, I am sure, but I really want to push it out the door in 2017!
