Also with 60 cards you could draw two in a row without reshuffling and not throw the odds off too badly. It would speed up "confirming criticals" or "to hit" followed quickly by "damage."
These cards are great for car and bus rides where there is no place to roll dice.
Sorry Guys!
I'd not been following the thread due to being ri-DIC-ulously busy, so I missed all your comments.
The conversation has been really interesting, and I like that you picked up the need for blank faces in order to keep the probabilities equal per dice type. I did think about this a fair bit at the time. If you nedd a d20 result (say) and you pick a blank d20, you simply draw again.
With regards to wanting a 60-card deck for the opportunity to do a 2d30 draw, you can just print the deck twice. That way you get double the multiple dice combos ( 2xd30, 2xd20, 4xd12, 6xd10, 6xd8, 8xdScatter, 10xd6, 10xd3, 10xdAv, 10xdFudge, 14xd4 and 30xd2). And you can keep doing this to multiply up accordingly.
But my point in trying to expand the usability of the cards was to increase the types of randomisers, not just the number of poly dice. An image, followed by some explanation might serve best here:
So we've got the existing PolyDice across the middle.
DECKTET - Top right corner we've got a Decktet deck. This means I need to raise the deck size to 36 cards for a basic decktet. I'm using standard suits rather than 'official' decktet suits to avoid possible copyright issues.
OSR - a simple OSR character generator. You could use a single card to define a character, or pick a card for each stat/gp/alignment. The stats also double as a randomiser for 'sum of 3d6' if you want. But I'd have to limit the permutations for that. I was thinking doing 2d6 +6 for the stats.
ROOMS - I was thinking about using this section as a simple random dungeon generator. As per the OSR section, each ROOMS section will cover the stats for a room, or you could select a card per room attribute. What kind of room attributes? Shape, size, no. of doors and door positions, type & no. of creatures present (Mook/Nemesis/Boss), Loot (Type), Trap (Type), maybe some 'atmospheric' words to help descriptions? There's quite a lot there, so I need to be concise.
CONDITIONS - initially I was thinking of using weather icons. I could add things like visibility, temperature, general atmosphere, ground conditions, breathability, wind strength & direction, etc.
STORY - I was thinking of story dice here. Picking a simple set and reproducing the faces on the six squares. However a normal set of story dice has 12 dice. So if you wanted to pick a single card to represent 6dStory then there will be certain combinations missed out. You could draw 12 cards to derive 12 random dice though.
QUEST - This section was to try to display the Attack/Defense dice for Heroquest and WHQ.
HULK - same as QUEST but for SPACE CRUSADE and SPACE HULK.
These are all just ideas, and I'm not exactly committed to any of them. I'm open to negotiation.
I appreciate any further thoughts/comments on this topic.
