Hump or no hump. That is the question To make the steps 'right', the hut needs to sit on a grassy knoll. And it wouldn't be hard to make one, but I'm getting tired of getting almost done and realizing I need to do something else. And if I do that I need to add the clutter ... the woodpile, the axe and stump, the fire and kettle. Oh, and shouldn't I do a backdrop. I once was following a design thread, and the author was describing how deciding when to be satisfied with the design was the hard part. Details can always be added and you will never finish. I just have to decide when to stop. Especially since I think this is a project that is mostly only interesting to me and a friend of mine that I'm making it for. But it has been an interesting exercise

I will build this. Yes, please include a backdrop.

I've been looking for forest images, but I am not really finding 'old forest', dense, shaggy forests, but I've only done quick searches
I just thought of an idea on that. I should find the names of forests near Glencoe, and search for them. Maybe.
I think the little knoll is almost necessary. Some of the other details aren't as necessary as having the setting 'right'. To have the proper feel to this, it just needs to sit a little higher. I was bouncing between a circular mound or octagonal, but the more I look at it, the more I think it needs to be circular. I might have to play with it to get the slope to where it doesn't look wrong.
I just think I have enough time in it now that it needs to look better than a throw-together.
I find it strange that some of my throw-together projects come out surprisingly good, yet my planned projects seem to require endless tweaking to get to acceptable standards. The Kurogane almost put itself together. The flytrap was extremely easy. The Bud Christmas truck should have been quick and easy, but took forever. The Citizen Security Bank should have been able to be quick, but it hasn't proved to be so. I think it comes down to whether I get the inspiration to design it at the proper time. The Zis-5 went in stages. Came up with something 'acceptable', but got an idea to improve it and then another spark turned it into a good model (just pure luck that the wheelbase turned out correct ... I wish it had been planned, but it was pure luck)
I think that is why I build a wide range of things and try to design a wide range. I'm trying to develop the required skills instead of relying on brute force and sheer luck

Bases and steps. I hope to get good at these some day.
I found a base I thought would work, that had a stripe along the bottom, which I deleted to decrease the height. My attempts at trimming it back further were utter failures. I really should take time to learn a 3d modeling program, but not today. This means I need to rethink things, and the most logical solution to me is to change the boulder footings. By making the top and upper sides of the mound 'shadowy darkness' and having the footings attach to the sides of the mound, the perspective of sitting on a mound, but keeping the overall height from the flat ground close to correct, is possible. Almost time to do the test build. I'm still wrestling with the steps. But getting the mound and hut placement satisfactory has to happen first so that the step geometry will work. That 'shadowy darkness' on the mound will extend to the ground level under the stairs.
One thing I talked about above is that sometimes I can just see the final product and how to get there and I can throw things together that surprise me.
The idea of changing the footing placement gets me to the point of being able to see the completed model and how to get there.
I don't think I can call this a repaint any more, more of a re-imagining

Gotta get back to this, but stuff always comes up, like having to pick up my neighbor's trash out of my yard and all the other neighbor's yards. That's right, a third of a bin... Back to mowing

When my wife and I first moved into our neighborhood, you weren't allowed to use trash bins. Only bags. We often triple-bagged our garbage in order to prevent animals from tearing them apart, but EVERY WEEK there was trash around the neighborhood because someone forgot to extra-bag their stuff. Then, for about a month, we were REQUIRED to use city-approved biodegradable bags. Even using two of them wasn't enough to keep the raccoons out. For a while, some of us started getting up early and waiting for the truck to enter the neighborhood, then run after the truck with our garbage... Good times...

They are just pigs, and they are raising a new generation of pigs.
On the lighter side, it is interesting to hear 3 year olds using the colorful language that endlessly flows from that house.
I feel so sorry for those kids, and their cousins, and aunts and uncles who are all school age that are being raised in that environment

Tonight, I wanted to play a game each of my solo WWII and Star Wars games. And maybe when I was done, assemble some of my Citroen models I posted up the other day. Followed by some miniature painting, I'd like to knock out my Colonial British cannon and crew. But what am I actually doing? Laying in bed browsing the internet from my phone. I'd like to blame it on having been out most of the day at job interviews, followed by housework and running the kids around town.
But really, this was my exact plan for last night, too; I did nothing at all yesterday, so it's not the activity that is slowing me down.
I got some mental block going on here, I'm not even playing World of Warcraft instead of hobbying o.0

What the heck was I thinking? Worked on the mound tonight, picking up where I left off over a month ago, only the geometry I'd used is totally wrong. Razzum frazzum. And I'm not 100% sure why I thought the mound was necessary. It would allow for the proper number of steps.
